Like I didn't have enough projects already LOL. Pretty sure this is rule #1 of bargain hunting; you are never going to get all those projects done so you may as well just get a good deal and add onto the list. Or so I've heard.

So that's why I made an appointment today to look at a very needy looking saw Saturday? The price IS right...

You can never have enough saws. On a side note, I had two running the other night till about 9:30pm. Yesterday the neighbor got onto me for running the saws too late. He was nice about it so said I’ll make sure not to cut past 8. In my head I’m like yeah…. But your 14 dogs are barking all night, so how are we going to remedy that.

realrockhound - I feel your pain. Neighbors used to have 3 dogs that sounded like 33. Horrible. Reminded me of some jokes I heard years ago (from an animal lover, to me, also an animal lover, just to be clear here. Don't go sicking PETA on me). How do you turn a dog into a cat? Put it in the table saw......mrrrrrrrrow. How do you turn a cat into dog? Add a match.... whoooooooooooof.

Most all mini Aussie shepherds. Then they threw in a dogo argentino and a pit. The pit almost killed one of the Aussies, then they got rid of a few and I think they are down to 8. I get along with the neighbors, but wouldn’t mind if they got rid of all of them. They are there just to exist.

Holy hell. Aussies are bad enough but an Argentino and a pit is just a bad combo waiting to get worse...
Most we ever had was six, and they were aggressive......ly friendly.

Man I wish I could afford a slab saw! Keep saving. You’ll get there if it is important enough.

Congratulations on your find.
I’m convinced. People who buy used multiple-size saws for the practical reasons, also love to tinker; in fact it is another hobby.

You need to provide details on that saw, seen it posted for a while. That pulley on the arbor is HUGE! Good project saw.

I loved our dogs growing up, but now taking care of myself and wife is more than we can handle.

AzRockGeek the huge pulley is on the feed, looks like the belt was looped around all the pulleys, can't see how the blade didn't slip. Gearmotor appears to be 28:1, haven't counted chain links yet, think screw is 20 TPI. When my brain is less tired I gotta math all that stuff and hopefully put that pulley in the yard art pile. Fun part will be building a vice carriage from scratch for it. Good thing I paid less than he was asking for it. There are also at least 2, maybe 3 saws in line ahead of it. When it cools down you should stop by.

AzRockGeek got a few pics with the real camera, there's some real good/bad/ugly going on here. The good: The bones on this thing are solid, I brought my saw toolbox to check for tub flex, left it in the car when I saw how robust it is. A feed that runs off the saw arbor is also always preferrable, with the electric feed saws the motor running the feed keeps running if the blade stops, and terrible things can happen. The lid was made like a regular factory built saw, in fact probably is one, but from another saw. The non flat tub bottom may or may not be good for cleanout, or could lead to a pumped oil setup with a settling baffle tank, a strong possibility for other reasons, see below. The bad: The arbor shaft is a piece of 1/2" round bar with the end threaded and a shaft collar for a stop on the blade. I saw it immediately when I got there and lowered my offer by $100 to at least partially cover the replacement. More incentive to get my metal lathe out of the crate, but realistically I will be calling Covington first to see if there is something I can buy from them. Also what is that coating on the inside of the tub? That was also factored into the offer, good thing once I figured it out. And I forgot to grab the motor, meaning another trip there later to get it, a nice 1hp. The UGLY: When I got out there to take these pics I finally took a good look under the tub... As it turns out, in order to form the sheet of steel for the base of the tub, they used a thinner sheet of steel. Somehow that steel rusted or something and got patched, the welder who did that is not the same welder who built it obviously. There also appears to be a "patch panel" on the inside under the coating of ???flex seal? ?? Well, I always wanted my own media blaster setup... So expect a thread for the ?Chain drive saw? in, I don't know, maybe a year? In the meantime it is soon heading back into the corner of the storage box. But first I plan to put the cap on the drain and full the tub with water just to see how bad it is, the dry sump is definitely a better option in that case.

I was looking at the pics from the guys ad over the weekend, looks like a lot of potential. If you could find a kit saw carriage, it might not be a bad way to go. When it cools down, I will have to head your way to check out some of your projects.
