In another thread we got to talking about black bruneau jasper. So just a lil while ago I decided to go out and dig through a couple buckets and crates of Bruneau I knew were laying around. Managed to find a mix of some stuff. Green and black. I did find quite a few nodules of the black, But i'll have to cut them to see if they have orbs. Here was a few I pulled out that were showing signs. This one is more of a green Getting close to the black Black with a smidge of green

I should’ve grabbed a couple other nodules out there, because apparently it comes in red too. First I ever seen or heard of red. Bruneau was written on it and it was in the bruneau crate.

Those are amazing. They’re a pain to saw but that makes the results even more satisfying. I don’t think anything polishes better. Thanks for showing. It’s eerily quiet on the forum. I wonder why.

I’m still not convinced they are bruneau, even though one had bruneau written on it (my grandpa wrote on everything 😂). However… if I remember correctly, they have the same host on them and the jasper texture is the same as bruneau. But they are an actual red, not that brown red I’ve seen. Didn’t see any orbs, but once cut open, who knows.

It's a total PITA to have rocks that you can't remember what the heck they are or where they came from. Looking forward to seeing the red ones!

Yeah, red. Show us red. In my collection, probably quite small compared to yours but with a few nice ones, I notice the mid and deeper browns have a pretty wide range of the spectrum between green and red in the brown part of it, would have loved to see the geology out there and guessed what all that came from. As an aside, for a social meeting at the club in Portland they played the BLM produced video on the claim. When they got to the part where they said the claim owners had "voluntarily" reclaimed and returned the claim the room literally erupted. Other than that the video was pretty good, might be on youtube.

I have a Jakes Place Morrisonite nodule chunk somewhere that I thought was Bruneau when I was bidding against Tim Fisher to get it, there were 3, he got 2 and he made me pay to get it for sure, at least in 10 years ago rock dollars. Colors in it were definitely a lot less muddy, and without him there to tell me mine would be labeled as Bruneau.

Shows how he mined it as well. Here’s the link.

Oh…. In one of the buckets, I also found a nice chunk of black batcave that had black orbs in it too. I need to cut and polish it to get the orbs to show. So I’ll post that at some point too.

realrockhoundThanks for posting the video. The display of Bruneau in there is impressive. Being from Idaho, Bruneau has been a favorite of mine for a long time.

We’re east of Coeur d’Alene. I got in a lot of garnet digging in my younger days.

Heres one of the two nodules of red that was in one of the crates. One of the two had bruneau written on it. Doesn't look like bruneau to me but it does have that same grey host on it. Shown wet

Dayam! Have you tried rubbing on it on your wheels? I'm wondering if that red is as tough to grind as the orange, green and black. If it is, I'd call it Bruneau. Beautiful red color, too. That's definitely a keeper forever.
