Polish alum ox. Burnished. Most of this I collected myself. Cellphone camera handheld because misplaced my tripod. Combo of self-collected and purchased. This is largest dalmatian I've ever done. It's 5" long and 1.8lbs. Polish came out pretty good all around. The lower one is psilomelane. The upper R is hematite. I'm not sure what the L one is--maybe just very dark jasper. The is material I was sold by Rock Shed as tiger's eye. It has no chatoyance and not entirely sure what it is. This is my first piece of Larsonite, purchased. Have quite a bit, including some large pieces. Have to cut around porous areas a lot. Mary Ellen jasper purchased at the mine in MN. Have some much larger pieces processing. Not sure what this is or how I got it. Some agates, mostly Bahai, all purchased. Finally have some decent quality mossy "agate" that has a solid surface! Purchased. Chalcedony collected from Cerro Pedernal in NM. Believe is called an jasper/iron ore/hematite mix I collected from N shore of Lake Superior in MN. Some pieces are very pitted and don't polish well. This is my best picture jasper ever, about 4" long. I'm not sure exactly what type this is; purchased. I don't do much of this because often has problem areas and took years to finally get a large piece come out perfect like this. Misc. pet wood, mostly from TX and NM. The black type of one of my favs, hard to tell is PW but can if inspect closely. Not entirely sure what top one is, but think others are quartzite. Top one might be very high quality tight quartzite. Misc. Misc. cherts I collected, mostly from streams at OK/KS/MO/AR junction region. The 4 light tan/yellowish ones are Kay County or Florence Type A chert from the OK/KS border and well known to knappers. I don't know where the upper R brown/white stripped one came from. It might have been purchased. Chert from western OK.

Very nice large batch. The dalmatian stone is great. I really like the cherts. The one you don't know about looks like Arizona petrified wood, it's beautiful. I like them all. TFS

That's awesome! Everything looks great! Real impressed by the Dalmatian jasper! Polishing a big piece like that isn't easy! The picture jasper is beautiful too!

Picture jasper is becoming one of my favorites - what a nice collection of beautiful stones. Wondering what size tumbler that you used for the large stones.

Picture jasper is becoming one of my favorites - what a nice collection of beautiful stones. Wondering what size tumbler that you used for the large stones. Typically I do rough grind in the 40lb Lortone barrel then move to finer grits in the smaller barrels and often things are done to the 12lb barrels for final steps. This batch had to be finished in the 20lb barrel due to size of the big one. It could have been finished in a 12lb barrel but only if all around it where much smaller stones mostly not much bigger than grapes. Picture jaspers are generally petrified mud and a whole category of jaspers. Some of these don't even have picture in the name, such as Succor Creek Jasper. Some picture "jaspers" aren't jaspers but are rhyolite. In general, I have not found that most picture jaspers or rhyolite picture "jaspers" take a great shine, though I have also not tried any of the very expensive and famous ones. When I look at images of Succor Creek J, they look so much like my piece that I'll bet that's what it is.

jone, I made the mistake of weighing the 40lb barrel last year, loaded with rocks and water and grit it was 66lbs. Lifting it onto the bench weekly is touchy to be sure. If you can get a 12lb Lortone rubber barrel tumbler, you can do a whole lot and it will last and last. I'm still running one I bought in 2014 with the same barrel even though has been going almost 24/7 since then!
