wargrafix - Sorry you had a bad day at work! Thanks for posting the pic! So...Dillon gave a good link for geodes. When I put out that offer, I wasn't thinking about geodes...I was thinking about "tumbling rough". I feel badly that I threw that offer out there...but I don't know the first thing about geodes...so I can't be of any help for a source. I'm sorry. You have zero need to be sorry my friend. If anything I really should apologize. You shared your enthusiasm, and I am really grateful. We are all learning and I think I know I will eventually get into tumbling. Maybe you will find a love of geodes. Then we have a win win. Oh and little one loves her piece of ruby. It does glow well in short wave UV. I know what I getting her for Christmas! I was perusing eBay this afternoon and thought of you. I ran across a couple auctions set to end on Friday for Thundereggs...but they're not geodes...so I knew they weren't really what you were looking for...but I did think of you!

When I first came back into the hobby, I thought geodes.and thundereggs were the same. But looking at videos and the especially the video you have put up Dave was a great education!
I am not a hard man to please, agates, thundereggs or geodes, I am a happy camper. Side note: I know I dumped on the nat geo kit a bit, and they deserve the smoke, but looking over the cut ones I will update my feelings on it.
They do have a variety. You may get more of one type but they look like they did try. Mind you, I am still annoyed that most were pretty solid. I can look at it as I got to practice my tile saw cutting skills on these.

I agree that they do have a special beauty, I didn't really realize at first. I forgot one of the first aspects of geology: the story of the rock is half the beauty. Looking over, There are a few nice ones that I would be willing to put a polish on. I think the reading up on the geodes and the formation conditions help to add value to the experience. I check the website posted. I am not sure I can sink cash on a 23 pound set, but I will try a mix bag and if the CFO (wife) is intruided I will shuffle the idea of buying the ones she and little one like the most. Little one likes the hollow ones more due to the druzy aspect. I realize the solid ones weight more. rofl. You have all taken the time to be patient with me, and I really appreciate it. I have a systems to set up, and will post some pics later. If I have questions, I hope you don't mind.

Here are a few images! I will need to figure out how to polish by hand Took me a while but figured out how to cut using the tile saw. A lapidary blade will work on mine?

Fantastic! The original bottom is often flat so this is upside down.

Silly question: I don't have access to tumbling grit for hand polish...is it possible to use different grits of sand paper to polish the cut sides?

The lap saw question remains...which one I should get? And the sandpaper Don't know if I can recommend a lap saw...but you CAN use sandpaper. It should be wet/dry sandpaper though. In fact, when I first started, I made cabochons with a Dremel. I would make my own sanding/polishing pads with wet/dry sandpaper (up to 2000 grit) which I would cut out and glue to existing used pads.

I was reading last night that lap saw blades on tile saw is asking for a bad time. I will look for a thin tile blade. Should I sand back and forth, or one direction?
