This is my first set and my first earrings. Not my first groove wrap but I did my first one today and this is my second, third and fourth. Unfortunately, I ended up with a small chip at the top of the pendant.

Very nice! You picked the perfect cabs for your set, and with only one chip on your 2nd, 3rd and 4th, they are amazing.

Thanks Patty, I don't think I want to try a regular wrap on this small of cab! Very nice! Thank you Tela. They look fabulous! I'd hire you. Thanks, I appreciate that. Thanks Chris, love the stones in your avatar. Very nice! You picked the perfect cabs for your set, and with only one chip on your 2nd, 3rd and 4th, they are amazing. Thanks Susan! I guess I did 2 other first, so I lied. This is actually 3rd, 4th and 5th!

Very nice! What a beautiful set. Can't even really see the chip - I had to look hard to find it. What do you use to cut the groove?

The cabs and polish are astounding. What caught my eye with the set was your choice of pattern placement...your positioning of the fortification patterning was fantastic! Way to go!
*I've chipped a couple cabs doing some groove wraps when I was working the wire in the groove. I've decided I'm only going to do groove wraps if they're preplanned...meaning I'll make sure the girdle is a little thicker on any of the ones I'm going to groove wrap...it keeps them from chipping as easily.

Very nice! What a beautiful set. Can't even really see the chip - I had to look hard to find it. What do you use to cut the groove? Thanks! I use a stained glass grinder. It's got a flat top and the shaft sticks straight up through it. There's a thin round grinding wheel that's basically a diamond incrusted horizontal disc. I made a fence to control the depth of the groove. The disc can be moved up and down the shaft so the groove is in the right place on the stone. Thanks Jason. There was kind of a repeating pattern along the edge of the cap so I was able to match the earrings pretty well. I chipped this one while grinding so I had to reshape the top and then go back and cut the groove in the top again. It's a lot easier to do when the cab is still flat! Thank you michiganpebbler I appreciate it.

rocknewb101 Peta this is the grinder. It doesn't look like it but the little backstop on the bottom is set to let it grind about the depth of a 20g square wire.
