Any help would be greatly appreciated. I picked this up at a "I'm retiring" sale in El Paso.

I've had some that polishes better than other...so (I believe) it just depends on the silica content on yours. It's a Rhyolite...so it's going to be one way or the other...so saith Captain Obvious! LOL I've had really good results cabbing the rough I have...which came from a couple different sources.

Jason what is the preferred thickness of slab for a cab. Most people shoot for 1/4". I try and cut mine just under that...it saves on rough (a very little bit), but it also makes the weight of the cab a little less as well.

I don't have calipers do you know how many rotations on my saw that wouls be? 4 looks to thin but 5 looks a bit to thick.

I just know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop! LOL

I just know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop! LOL When the target is .250" or one quarter, the 3 saws I'm running are all different... The basic formula is (desired thickness + blade thickness) divided by the thread pitch of the cross feed screw. In my 10" saw it is 5 turns to get a little more than 1/4”. 6 turns is close to the same in the 14" 7 turns in the 18" is slightly under. If I change the blade to a thinner or thicker one, it all changes. Plastic vernier calipers at HF are cheap. I use different thicknesses for different purposes. I also plan all the cuts for a piece of rough by counting the turns from my last cut to my first before starting to cut. Yeah, I know, rock nerd.
