Tumbling machine done!!
Although I think the grip would be better with the shape/style of the traditional Thumler’s barrel (more squat with two raised tracks) would be a better fit and would give more grip.
I may also raise the passive bar an inch or two so that more of the weight is on the drive bar. I’ll see.
Thanks for watching.

Looks very nice and simple! So quiet too. I'm about to make a thread about quiet motors if you'd like to chime in. What motor is that and did noise level factor into your purchase? Sure - I’d be honored to help, thanks for asking. It’s even quieter in real life. The video makes it 10 times louder. Here’s all the info, it’s also available on Amazon: It’s the US Motors 8200, Belted Fan & Blower, 1/2 HP, 1-Phase, 1725 RPM Motor electricmotorwarehouse.com/1-2-hp-1725-rpm-1-speed-115v-5-6-blower-motor-nidec-8200/

That's a fantastic home build!! It looks like there's room for another three 3-pound barrels on there!

I don't know that they would necessarily work better...that 3-pounder looks like it's rolling really well!

I have vinyl hosing on the rods and two strips of duct tape on the barrel. The actual barrel is a hard rubber that isn’t very grippy. I may need to adjust the angle a bit. I’m picky and want to make it perfect lol.

I am liking this motor for an arbor, but even then it's probably overkill. Isn't 1/2 hp a lot for a tumbler? Something that jumps out at me is 8 amps (960 watts). The harbor freight double 3lb barrel uses 30 watts. I pay 12 cents per kilowatt hour here. If I were to run that motor 24/7 it'd be nearly $3 per day, $20 per weekly cleanout. Thanks! If this was doing a bunch of tumblers at once, the price would be easier to swallow. Do you have a different motor suggestions? I wanted to be sure that nothing I did would bog it down - like the harbor freight will.

The best way to get traction on the barrel is to run a belt that powers both rollers at the same speed.

That's a nice looking build. As far as the motor I think you have enough power to run as many barrels as you want. I use a 1/20th hp on my homemade 12 pounder. I used 5/8 heater hose on my rods and it turns that 12 pound barrel nicely with no slippage.it has to weigh close to 20 lbs when it's loaded up.

I think I’ll pick up that motor tomorrow as well and retrofit it to see if I can run with that as well. My only question is - that motor shaft is 5/16” - I am currently using a 1/2” shaft, and pulleys are easy to find. Did you use an adapter to make your shaft a different diameter, or are you using a pulley with a 5/16” bore? Also, what size outer diameter pulleys are you using with this setup? Thanks!

I looked high and low for one like it because it's for O ring belts and I got a screaming deal on a 100 pc. bag of those. I had pulleys on the other end to drive both shafts but discovered that I didn't need them.
