So I had my tumbling bowl handy from the wrap challenge, so figured I'd try another. And since I forgot last time- here's what the tumble looks like before I wrapped it. This one I used 20 gauge twisted square wire, along with plain. I used more bindings then I might have figured originally- but with the irregular shape of the stone, it seemed necessary to keep the border wires tight in multiple places. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out. Still figuring out the concentration to use on the liquid LOS- but the wires look antiqued, so I'm good with it. Thanks for looking , Patty

Nice looking wrap! It goes well with the stone. You get bonus points for the July challenge. Once again I think the back looks great too. I'm using gel LOS and use way less then what the instructions call for.

Very cool, Patty! You did a proper border wrap on a tumble- well done!!! And, the back looks really nice, too.
I use the gel los, too. I don't measure. I just squeeze some into the hot water.

One question - does the gel go bad that you store it in the refrig ??

Thank you Tela.
I think that might be the first time someone told me I did the "proper" anything . I'm almost feeling on a roll & might try another tumble !

liveoak I think the gel is supposed to have a long life. I've been storing mine in an outside cabinet that's subject to pretty extreme temperatures. Since I haven't been doing this for so long it's all I've ever used. I've bought one small bottle and there's still plenty left.

Nice job on the wrap, liveoak Patty! Regarding LOS, I use the gel also. I never measure. I have a jar of it, so I just use a toothpick to add it to some warm water. Depending on how much patina I want, I'll add it until it's a nice yellow color. I've even used it straight from the jar with a paintbrush when I wanted an almost black patina. The thing about LOS is that even if it's too dark, it's easy to remove some with extra fine steel wool, a polishing buff or a Sunshine cloth until you get the look you want. I've had my jar of LOS for years now, and it still works just fine. I keep it stored in a drawer in my bench out of sunlight.

Thanks Robin hummingbirdstonesWith the lump LOS I'm used to my metal turning dark quick like, so I was surprised with the gel taking so long. On the other hand, that's not a bad thing. BUT next time I'll try a couple of extra drops- I like your gauge of watching for that nice yellow color- Thanks for that. Patty

The time it spends in the LOS solution is the determining factor so I always put more in than I really need because I can be an impatient little bugger.

Me also, I figure heck, better to get it darker & be done with it . The steel wool is my go to as well.

So, now that you mention it I can see the 3 pointed hat.
BUT, my husband Tom (who has a vivid imagination) is telling me he NOW sees a bird with a crest on his head .........
See what you started

liveoak I see it as a full figure of a person wearing a Tabard (or maybe a silver jacket with tan sleeves) and a hat/scarf (?) dealy with feathers. There seems to be some facial painting coming down from the eye. FWIW, I see things in exposed rock face type hillsides but not in clouds

Mixing the LOS in hot water will add some oomph to it too.

You are one brave woman, Patty, surviving wrapping #1 and moving on to another, and an even more difficult one at that. It looks great!

I love the fluid look of your pendant, Patty. Your wrapping feels just right for that look!

Thanks Susan - I'm thinking of living dangerously & trying a third ! I love the fluid look of your pendant, Patty. Your wrapping feels just right for that look! Thank you Gary.
I was happy they way it came together.
Surprisingly, the tumbled wraps seem to be working for me ?
I think I must be putting my OCD guard down & just going with it !

Amazing job hugging the edge of that tumble it looks great. Really shows off the whole stone.
