Some pieces I played with today:
Two from a thunderegg - both started out as pretty normal shapes but it turns out those things can be crumbly! And thus we improvise I guess. The mozarkite was an attempt at this month's cab contest since it's one of the few self-collected stones I have, but it's not quite what I wanted for that. Still a day in the workshop is better than a day anywhere else!

Way to go! Nice recovery on the shapes! (I absolutely HATE reshaping cabs when something goes awry! LOL)

Way to go! Nice recovery on the shapes! (I absolutely HATE reshaping cabs when something goes awry! LOL) Thanks! To be fair, there was some weeping and gnashing of teeth (and swearing of oaths!) I liked how the first one came out (shape wise) when it was all said and done though. (Need to go back and polish those top scratches out though.) The second doesn't grab me yet - I may re-to it again this week if I have enough real work to avoid.

Yeah...sometimes when the tip breaks off, it's hard to rework the shape so it doesn't look like...well...the tip came off! LOL Not saying this is the case for your recoveries...but for me...I'm more apt to trash the piece then reshape it. Sometimes, I feel a certain cab was only meant for a certain shape with a certain pattern in the rock...and when it breaks, I figure I don't want to "settle". *Depending on material though! If it's high-dollar material, I'm gonna save it...one way or another! LOL

Very nice!
The second one grabs me because of its strong patterns. While its shape is a little odd, it still has potential. If it were mine, I would keep the straight edge and try to round the darker end to approximate the curve of the other end. I think it would make a great pendant cab with the straight edge oriented on top or below.
