Very nice both of you rockbrain and susand24224 I love petrified woods and these are both really pretty materials. It’s interesting they look really nice as squares and we don’t see that often. I like the warm tone wires with the pocket badger sycamore and the cool tone with the black palm wood. Susan I think the color contrast is nice. If you did add a patina, I’d do very little, making sure to really burnish it well. Thank you Khara. I agree with you on the patina; the only reason I considered it was the amazing tarnishing capability of sterling. I think this should have been the "wrap something petrified" challenge!

Wow susand24224, what a difference the background makes, the red is it !
Truth be told I enjoy your wraps, as you think outside the box & come up with interesting ideas.
Now you have me curious what the 3 cabs would have looked like - but no , I like the 2, 3 would have been too much.
I'm definitely in the "plan as you go" wrap camp (which is unlike me) most of the time.
I seem to TRY to plan ahead & then have to troubleshoot to make it work out somehow.
I will not admit how much scrap copper wire I have- hey maybe someday I'll melt it down & roll it out.
At least you can send your silver in for scrap

Wow, Susan susand24224 !! Great job. I really like this. Do you think you can post a pic for scale? If not, that's cool. Very well done! Here you go! And a much better photo at that; I even found something red. Warning to all on the squares--this wouldn't have been as much of a problem if the square was larger, but I *really* had problems keeping the vertical side wires in place, which ultimately ended up with me securing them from the back with some of the left-over bail wires. The top cab was not made by me, but is handmade with no slippery edges. But--it is more of a pillow, which made it harder to keep the wires in place without putting a ton of binding wires along the sides. Thank you! That square really is small. So, is the other one, too. I wasn't sure what to think about the kite tail, but with the movement this makes, the tail fits.

rockjunquie and liveoak, the three looked great together, but when I factored in the chain it was starting to resemble a structurally-challenged ladder. As for the kite tail, I wasn't sure about this tail either, but it is kind of growing on me now. And conceptualization, I find it odd that I can't really do it in advance. I can do the basic plan, but I just don't "see" the potential problems or weak points although I suspect they are there. Or, I can see them but can't plan how to fix them in advance, which I *usually* can do when I actually reach that point in the wrap. The downside is there may be insurmountable issues, the upside is that it forces creativity. And Patty, thank you for the compliment--I think the "outside of the box" comes from my inability to conceptualize in advance.

So I have to admit that I had this length of woven wire that I had made a while back, for another project that just didn't work out. But it was too interesting to just throw in that ever growing scrap bin. So, it's been languishing on my bench for the last couple of months needing a purpose- so I figured I'd give it a shot, to see if I could come up with something for my own square challenge. So I picked a stone that was one of the group of square object examples. I believe it's Kambaba Jasper
Much to my surprise, I was actually able to use the entire length of woven wire and with some added coiling made it all fit together.
So here's my entry for this months challenge.
Front
Bottom Side Back Thanks for looking,
Patty

Oh my!! That's gorgeous! How awesome that you saved the weave wire! I love everything about this, but maybe the most of all the way the lock wires are curved in- it looks nice with the square and softens it visually. Very pretty.

I second that "oh my!" a lovely creation! So much going on in that wrap, and it all pulls together perfectly. The back is fascinating to me--I'm still looking at how you did it. And what an added bonus to be able to use a previously prepared accouterment!

Thank you Tela.
I just didn't like the look of the lock wires at the top, and fortunately hadn't cut them yet, so I hammered the ends so I could slide them under the coil. And they stayed put through the tumbler !
Thank you Susan.
I'm still pinching myself that I was able to use the already made weave- that just doesn't happen in my life !
The back came together very differently on this one - Usually I work on the bail and then try to figure out how I'm going to do the back (that's where my worries are a lot of the time). But the bail was troubling me, so I did the back first & then made the bail back to front.
Shockingly it actually worked !
Thank you both for the nice comments & a smile to my day. Patty

Patty, your necessity became your creativity and "mother of invention"--two bows to you! No wonder I had trouble figuring it out, but you made it work!

susand24224 great idea. I've been going to play around with a two stone wrap but haven't got to it yet. Now with your kinetic masterpiece I'm getting more ideas! liveoak that's a great looking weave. I'm amazed you were able to reuse that and it came out looking like it was made for that cab. I really like how the 2 wrapped wires on the top dip down to hold the stone in place. Great looking wrap.

Thank you rockbrain Shockingly it actually became a nice composition in the end, I certainly had my doubts when I started. Sometimes you just get lucky.

Very nice liveoak Patty. I like all sides of it, front, top, back. I like how the weave separates on the top sides and holds the cab and then has separate wires on both sides that wrap around up towards the bail. It has more interest than just a weave all the way around. And the back is interesting too, not just functional looking but has some design. Overall really nice and good that you got to use some almost scrap.👍

Great job on all the wraps. I have been too tired to do much of anything lately. Dealing with my mom's place and 20+ years of accumulated stuff she left behind was a monumental task but we got it done and ready for photos so the house can be put on the market. I don't know if I have a square cab or where it might be right now. I had to get two storage rooms in different places so everything is a big mess. I may try to find my wrapping tools and cabs now that I have a minute or two to look.

You certainly have mine--not a fun job, and likely full of memories. Welcome back!

Yes, in a way I'm relieved that it's done. Unfortunately now comes the task of finding somewhere else to live. No rest for the weary.

I'm gonna have to go with a very square rectangle or not at all. I have gone through everything I have- no squares-- which is really weird. I have so many family things coming up, I won't be able to cab one. Mid Aug through early Sept has always been a time and money crunch.
