Your new mission, should you chose to accept it, is to wrap something that is square. Patty liveoak deliberately included everything- including cabs.
Remember, this is not a contest, but a way to get you wrapping and maybe stepping outside your box doing it. No winners, no losers.

In the interest of trying to inspire other people to join in this month-
I started looking around as to what square items I have.
I found I had a couple of cabs from the long ago square contest, and another recent AL Pet wood one, different types of square beads, and on the left I found that in the kitchen isle at the big box stores they sell a lot of different varieties of small glass square tiles. I got some free samples ( off the floor)- but the variety was pretty cool.
And last but not least, Tom's suggestion of a square scrabble tile
I've never actually wrapped a square cab (or anything square for that matter).
Not sure if I should stick with the square look OR go diamond.
Decisions, decisions, decisions.......
Should be fun.

Good ideas. I think I'll have better luck finding rectangles. How do you feel about allowing those?

Okay I'll kick it off. This is kind of a little one. It wasn't sure how I would do on it but it came out okay. The woven bail certainly isn't perfect, but it's the best one I've done so far. I'm glad we're having these challenges this one was more about the weaving than the square. For me. This is kind of a little guy. It's petrified pocket badger sycamore wood. Supposed to be quite rare. One tree found of it and then they built a military range over the site so it's completely off limits now.

rockbrain you scored a hit right out of the gates!!! That is a pretty little wrap. The bail looks fine. A little wonky at the start but you managed it. The whole piece is nice and neat. I like the patina- looks great with the wood.

Geez, I just looked at this thread and there's Gary's near perfect wrap setting a ridiculously high bar! Just kidding--(about the bar), but the wrap looks great and suits the stone very well. Now I need to see if I have anything square--I know I've got rectangles, but I'm hoping for square. . .

One of the best national anthem renditions I've heard was Huey Lewis and the News acapella at a 49ers game.

So here's my square! The only thing I had that is square was a tiny piece of . . .palmwood. The square part is only 3/4ths of an inch square, so it demanded a companion--more palmwood. And no matter whether I use a grey background, a white one or a black one, the photo looks like a black and white photo. It's been too long of a day to try something red. I've never done a "dual rock" wrap before, but many I have seen look rather stiff and chunky (along with a few that are gorgeous) so I wanted there to be movement between the two pieces. Problem is, I absolutely cannot visualize technical problems in advance. I realize them while working and sometimes can fix them (and sometimes can't) but I just don't figure it out in the planning stage. So my latest wrap is dubbed Square a/k/a "how to build up your supply of silver scrap." I'm on the fence about whether to antique this piece/pieces. The cabs are very shiny and create a lovely silvery-black contrast, so I tried to echo that in the silver wire and black chain; I'm afraid I'll lose that contrast with antiquing. Thoughts comments welcome, actually wanted. To antique or not to antique, that is the question. PS: Back wires are now straigtened out. BACK:

Very nice both of you rockbrain and susand24224 I love petrified woods and these are both really pretty materials. It’s interesting they look really nice as squares and we don’t see that often. I like the warm tone wires with the pocket badger sycamore and the cool tone with the black palm wood. Susan I think the color contrast is nice. If you did add a patina, I’d do very little, making sure to really burnish it well.

Wow, Susan susand24224!! Great job. I really like this. Do you think you can post a pic for scale? If not, that's cool. Very well done!

I love kinetic jewelry - it just adds another whole dimension to things.
It's an interesting wrap, with equally interesting stones. (and must have been difficult being small)
I think I would have been tempted to put a bead or something on the end - but maybe not.
Definitely leave it bright without any patina.
In your photos anyway, it looks right.
Thanks for the inspiration - I've seen double stone wraps before, but hadn't considered the possible movement factor ! A great idea.

And a much better photo at that; I even found something red. Warning to all on the squares--this wouldn't have been as much of a problem if the square was larger, but I *really* had problems keeping the vertical side wires in place, which ultimately ended up with me securing them from the back with some of the left-over bail wires. The top cab was not made by me, but is handmade with no slippery edges. But--it is more of a pillow, which made it harder to keep the wires in place without putting a ton of binding wires along the sides.

Patty, I had to laugh at your post because it is so tuned in to some of my issues putting this together. I originally had three little cabs, the third being another teardrop which would have been on top pointy side up. I considered a bead, and actually considered small beads between the cabs, but scrapped that. I didn't know what I was going to do with the tail until I did it. This was really a "plan as you go" wrap! I love the contrast with the silver and the cabs, but being mindful of the incredible ability of sterling to tarnish, I still considered antiquing. For now I'm not going to do it. I was almost done when you posted your lovely . . . palmwood.
