I find that I am getting choosier about rocks that I want to polish. I sometimes find cracks or divots that I know will not hold a polish. Can I trim these rocks? My guess is that after I do this, I need to restart the tumbling with Grit 1? Is that correct? Any advice on doing this?

I trim some when necessary but I also have an arbor with an 8" sintered 46 grit wheel that I use for very fast removal of problem areas on tumbles. They all go back into stage 1 after being repaired. With the grinder I am able to grind the imperfections while keeping a natural shape so only one week of stage one. If I trim a section off I go longer in stage one and even then there is a noticeable flat spot where you can tell it has been cut. Chuck

Thanks that helps a lot and the grinding as opposed to cutting seems like the way to go.
