I've forgotten what this beautiful cab was called. I remember it had Blue in it's name from the gentleman I had bought it from at Tucson. Any help would be appreciated.

I thought that, too. But, if it was old, it would be dull- I would think.

Probably BlueBird Azurite with malachite, from the BlueBird mine in Globe Az. Here is a comparison from a quick search.

Looks like Azurite/Malachite to me, too. lapis60 didn't indicate when he bought it. It's not necessarily old.

Just to stir tings up a little on a slow day I offer the question: which is correct, bolo or bola tie? Since I'm now officially an Arizonan, and since Arizona claims to have originated that particular style of neckwear, I consider it my civic duty to address this burning question. Arizona even passed a state designating the proper name and, if my sources are correct it has been joined by New Mexico and Texas since this article was published. Read on below. Hint: a bolo is a knife. www.tetonartgallery.com/bolo-tie-bola-tie-which-is-correct/

hummingbirdstones Bola/bolo? It's just one of those nerdy things. The name "bolo" is so well established in the public mind I'm sure it will stick forever even though it's wrong.

Both terms are apparently correct. Here is an article from a gallery in...well...Arizona (Sedona). And, the laws/language making them the official neckwear in TX and NM use "bolo" in the text of the respective resolutions. Whichever is "correct" is certainly arguable, but whatever word is used is probably more attributable to regional or local usage. ETA: Forgot article link. www.shopgarlands.com/blogs/news/the-native-american-bola-tie-faq#Looks like it's more a case of "toe-may-toe" / "toe-mah-toe" versus right or wrong.

aDave Well, if I was selling them (as most jewelry shops in Sedona do) I'd certainly opt for the most inclusive name. After all, the customer is always right eh? But if one goes to dictionary definitions, bola seems to me the more accurate (though unpopular) name. "Bolo" on the other hand seems in my searches to consistently be defined as the name of a large macnhete-like knife used in the Philippines. Bottom line, I was just trying to have a little fun with it. After all, if the word "media" (the PLURAL of "medium") is consistently used as singlular (especially in the media), what's a poor language purist to do? And don't get me started on "data."

I totally get it, Rick. Ironically, if you dig into the gallery's site for sales, it "reverts" to "bola" on its sales pages despite acknowledging that either is correct. Must be that AZ legislation influence. I knew you were poking the hornet's nest with a stick, so to speak. That's why I inserted a smiley into the other post. I didn't want to come across that I was drawing an absolute line in the sand, one way or the other. It certainly is a mixed bag of usage, depending on where one looks. Thanks for bringing it up. I'm kind of an English language word nerd myself, but I'd actually never heard that reference before. Guess I learned something today, though I still am going to use the term, "bolo." Hope all is well and you're enjoying the (relatively) new home.

aDave Health's been a little rocky, expectable at my age (I'm looking for a taxidermist these days instead of a doctor). But we love AZ, especially our location, and are happy to be able to enjoy it for a time. Wish I had more energy though. Fruit harvest time is here and it's raining lovely peaches and Asian pears in my yard. But due to my lack of energy the ravens are getting far more benefit from it than we are.
