Date: August 4. 2023
Weather: Mixed. Lots of rain (later just occasional) with clouds and a few streaks of sun, 62°F
Destination: Eng (AT)
Well...
This day DID go as planned!
(Almost But we'll get to that later.)
Got up early, packed my stuff, jumped into my car and made my way down south towards Eng.
Happy that I was able to continue my trip, I drove through the Großer Ahornboden to shortly after approach the central parking area of Eng.
Until... I lost the sole of my right boot.
I suspect to nobodies surprise, that little "fun event" marked the literal turning point of my walk.
Straight back to the car it was, walking kinda funny.
Next time I'll be prepared with a roll of duct tape.
It was a great day with some interesting challenges.
Good thing is, that I always have a third pair of shoes in my car - the ones I actually always drive in.
Enjoy the pictures
... and always have some backup boots.

Well...
This day DID go as planned!
(Almost But we'll get to that later.)
Got up early, packed my stuff, jumped into my car and made my way down south towards Eng.
A short stop at lake Sylvenstein for a breath of fresh air and the mandatory picture,
then my route lead me through the little villages Fall, Vorderriß and Hinterriß along river Rißbach.
A few minutes later I forked over some Euros at the toll station for access to the private road to continue towards the Großer Ahornboden and Eng.Past the toll station, I made a stop at basically every parking spot along the road to check out the surroundings and accessibility to river Rißbach.
That went ... soso. I got some nice impressions out of it, not really any access to a rocky shoreline, BUT:
Completely soaking wet feet! YAY!
The hiking shoes I bought last year, that where "supposedly" water proof... were not. My feet, socks... I was basically swimming inside my boots.
So I went back to my car, got out of those "walk-able swimming pools", dried my feet and put on dry socks and my good, old mountaineering boots.
Sure, more bulky and stiff - but also dry and actually waterproof.
Happy that I was able to continue my trip, I drove through the Großer Ahornboden to shortly after approach the central parking area of Eng.
From there on, I had a great walk all around the area, following the little stream Enger-Grund-Bach towards and into the mountainous region.
It was a great time. Amazing nature and a lot of rocky riverbed to pick through stones.
Until... I lost the sole of my right boot.
Yes, those boots were well over 20 years old.
They were fantastic quality and tanked everything I threw at them basically undamaged.
So I guess it was time... but NOT around 1.9 miles away from my car!
