I know I may not be getting more rocks for a while, but I thought you all might like some images of the planets for this year so far. I am concentrating more on Jupiter and Saturn right now since they are become better everyday.
My telescope is the Celestron 9.25 sct Mount is the Orion Atlas pro Barlow is the Vivitar 3X teleconverter Camera is the Player one Uranus-C
Many images are taken by shooting video, stacking the video to distill the best frames and the applying a combination of sharpening and noise reduction calculations which are done in a program called registax. And better yet, there are programs capable of combing a series of stacks into a cleaner image
Jupiter and Europa on the 16th August
Saturn on the 13th August |

That's pretty cool. I assume you don't have to stabilize anything being it's so far away?

For planetary you do want a well tracking mount for long period captures! I am glad you all liking! :-) Jupiter, Io and its shadow as well as the great red spot  |

@wargraphix - those pictures turned out great. Its amazing the types of images that amateur astronomers are turning out these days.
Ive always wanted to get into it but I just havent put my money into it. I do have a 12" dob that I take out occasionally but I find it tough to manually track whatever Im viewing.
My girlfriends dad used to run an astronomy group where we would camp out for the weekends with a bunch of people and seeing the images they were capturing was mind blowing. It definitely humbled me as I was fighting to manually track things with the cannon of a scope I have.

Please share the details....how? I had known this event was happening.The issue was Jupiter was on about 45 degrees up from the horizon (closer the horizon, the worse seeing gets). By great fortune, the conditions were very good. I used the Celestron 9.25 sct telescope, a 3x teleconverter and A planetary camera called the Uranus-C at 104fps.
I focused and shot 50 videos each, which rounded up to a grand total of 480gb of data! I stacked each video and applied wavelets in a program called registax. Then loaded up the final frames into a program called PIPP and set the frame rate to 14fps. The resulting gif is what you see
