Really love the 2nd, round, one! Thanks Khara! That round one and the 3rd one are kind of "frustrating" with regards to the colors. The colors in these are the same exact colors as are found in Teepee Canyon Agates (a close "cousin" to Fairburns). I still love them because they definitely are Fairburns...but that 3rd one has a "stress fracture"...although it's completely below the surface. There is a TON of stuff going on in that round one though!!

Ya I can see the stress fracture. I've got a cab dopped right now, from the self collected contest, where a stress fracture (I guess) started making itself visible on the top and side. I haven't decided if I should grind it down until it (maybe) goes away, or if that'll end up with too thin of a cab, or if it'd be fine to just leave the fracture. It isn't a vertical crack, it's like a sideways "chip" almost that I think would peel off as I worked it longer if that makes sense. Anyway, minimal risk as it's just self collected material but I'm still trying to decide how to handle that type of scenario.

Anyway, minimal risk as it's just self collected material but I'm still trying to decide how to handle that type of scenario. I've come to the point in cabbing that a piece really HAS to be worth it for me to continue working it. That Fairburn with the stress fracture kept getting worked...only because it's a Fairburn. I'm past the point of wanting to use pieces as "learning" pieces...but once in awhile I'll keep going if there's a slim chance at saving a piece. When I first started, I wanted to see "what would happen if...". That, and I hated wasting material. For the most part now, I'll scrap a "non-precious" piece in a heartbeat. All are awesome! Love the aztec lace! Thanks Ashley! I do too! That's another one that's going to stay on my radar for a good deal on the rough...which doesn't seem to happen very often! LOL As always, beauties! Gotta pick the 4th Fairburn as my fav. Thanks Robin! Yeah...that Fairburn piece begged for that shape...even though I've been doing a lot of that shape lately! The fortification was right on the edge of the slabette...but the circular pattern around it needed a curved edge. (Or so I thought! LOL)

Absolutely stunning! love love love. I can't even choose a favorite, although I think the 5th is it - is that the needles? I really love the round too - it looks like an amazing pattern peeking through.

I have a bunch of TSA preforms cut that need to be shaped...but haven't found the time to get back on the wheels yet! That round Fairburn really does have a lot of "stuff" going on in it!

Thats some awesome work there! I like all of those materials, the fairburn agate turned out amazing, especially the third pic down.
I need to get some of that royal aztec lace for myself. My girlfriend loves the color purple, so It would really be for her. But I like it too.

Wow! Great group, Jason! I love the first one- a lot. Something about how the colors all work together. It's like a gem owhyee agate or a rocky butte agate.
The Aztec lace and TSA came out great!

Sorry for the dumb question, but which one is the stick agate?

My girlfriend loves the color purple, so It would really be for her. But I like it too. Thanks SY!! If you ever find a good deal on the Royal Aztec Lace, let me know! It's usually pretty "up there" in price! Wow! Great group, Jason! I love the first one- a lot. Something about how the colors all work together. It's like a gem owhyee agate or a rocky butte agate.

Thanks Tela! Yeah...that first one is one of my all-time fave Fairburn cabs. There's something about it which makes it look like it has a patina...which makes it look "old-school" to me. That Aztec Lace is something else!! Just the way this piece cut, I had to really squeeze this shape out of it. If you look, you can see the tiniest piece of matrix (the soft brown part) right at the bottom tip. I wasn't sure if I was going to lose the bottom...but it really worked out well! Beautiful cabs! Sorry for the dumb question, but which one is the stick agate? Thanks Chris! Not a dumb question...the Stick Agate is the brown one...the fifth one down. Thanks PS!! We'll see how the next Stick Agates turn out. Those are amazing! I think I have to go with number 4 as the best but they are all great! Thanks Chris! That 4th one really does have a gorgeous fortification in it. It actually has a blue tint...which isn't all that common of a color for Fairburns. Whoa! Nice snd swoopy! Bravo! Thanks Paul! I feel like I'm still light years behind you my friend!

These are gorgeous, Jason! I favor the 4th Fairburn, but the 3rd Fairburn is quickly becoming a favorite the more I look at it. That Aztec is dreamy. The banding and swirls are so intricate. Stunning. Beautiful job!
