I have a 10" lapidary saw that I bought and refurbed and it works great and gets used a lot for hand held cutting pieces before rotary tumbling.
There are places on it where I have put various seals and gaskets to prevent oil leaks. They all work, for a while. I've tried making gaskets out of rubber, neoprene, and cork, and it seems they all swell up and go crazy in a few months. The thought just occurred to me I have never tried making a gasket out of silicon from a tube of it.
I have some kind of weatherstripping where the table meets the tank. It itself seems to hold up, but the adhesive required to keep it in place keeps failing and I've tried maybe 5 different kinds of adhesive. The last one I think was some kind of Permatex auto adhesive. I have not tried all the various formulations of Permatex yet.
I also have a drain hose and funnel that I hook under the drain hole and drain it frequently to refresh the oil because I do so much cutting. This drain works great. I just unscrew a wine bottle cork and there she goes. But, the where the plastic drain hose meets up with a plastic funnel with a taper on the bottom of it also keeps failing for all adhesives tried.
Is there some kind of adhesive that can stand up to mineral oil without having to try epoxy which isn't flexible and would therefore not work well?
Is there some kind of gasketing material that I have not thought of that can stand up to mineral oil?
Never before the last few years had any idea how mineral oil can really affect materials!

Thank you so much. I did some work on it yesterday, and just like always, almost every single piece of gasketing swells up and becomes a mess and has to be replaced about once/year. I did for the first time put in a piece of closed cell foam and will see how it goes. Can't wait to test your recommendation!
