I've seen a lot of Nyedegger, however... this is what I would consider to be the best of the best, in regards to variance. Cool little story on this. So probably two-three years ago, my uncle had given me the big chunk which he obtained from his grandpas collection. I was down at my parents place today and was talking to my dad about Nyedegger and hes like when you going to grab that nice chunk you've left in the shop. We got to talking and I was like, i'm pretty sure grandpa left me a slab that is from that exact piece. So we go back to my place and I pull out the slab and line them up. Sure enough... its an exact match. As far as I know, my grandpa and my uncles grandpa weren't trading material. I am for certain that they both knew the original guy who dug Nyedegger plume. After all of these years, from two different families, both pieces from the same rock made it into my possession. I should have clarified. My aunt had remarried, and the two families had no prior connection. So pretty crazy after all these years these two pieces came back together. The Chunk.. The slab... The profile... When put on top of one another they are an exact fit. Even down to the vugs in the stone.

Awesome story - beautiful plum agate!! With nydegger the majority of it is the white plume. Then you start getting into the mix of white and yellow. The purples and reds were the most scarce.

What a strange, cool coincidence! Gorgeous rock/slab. Yeah, I was honestly shocked. I’m going to go talk to my uncle and ask if he knows how his grandpa obtained the big piece. I’m pretty certain I know where my grandpa got the slab.

When you really love something the world usually finds a way to bring it to you. A story piece for sure

Will do. I’m curious to know what the backstory is on this piece. I’m curious to know why one person ended up with the chunk and another with a slab. Maybe it was a bigger piece and more people ended up with a slab due to those colors being so rare. I know so much about the history of the nydegger diggings, yet so little.

Have you run the numbers for what the chances of you ending up with both of those pieces?? Astronomical!!
I've heard a couple stories of two halves of Fairburns being found by the same person...at totally different times. It just astounds me when the universe lines things up like this!!
