Wow, that is a big one. Do you have plans for it? That would be a nice centerpiece for an aquascape.

I looked aquascape up and can’t believe it hadn’t occurred to me that pet wood would work well in an aquarium or similar. Since my family want an aquarium after we move anyway, I think I’ll try pet wood and other rocks I’ve worked on in it.

I got into this hobby so I could polish rocks collected locally along the shores of Lake Huron for a small ten gallon aquarium, just to try something different. Petrified wood was an interest too, but prices on the I-net are crazy. Yep, that is a great idea to use that in an aquarium where a lot of people will see it, plus the fact you collected it yourself.

Thanks for the ideas bud, much appreciated! We’re moving soon and I promised the kid we’d get an inside tropical aquarium and an outside local aquatic life aquarium or pond type thing. I’ve a lot of petrified wood from small to fairly large pieces. Roughly 50lbs or so. I’ve a running thread called Texas Rocks in the rock tumbling pictures section. My wife, her 10 year old daughter and I hunt all around far north San Antonio area and find some amazing rocks.

That’s a good idea, but for now I get enough just talking with folks like this. Maybe down the line after we move and get settled.

Nice pieces of pet wood!! Thanks! I was stunned when I first pulled it from the dirt. I’ll be gathering all my pet wood here to move and will take a picture. I’m quite happy with how much we’ve found, thinking 60- 70lbs. The kid found most of it by far, being closer to the ground with better eye site. But this big guy was my find lol.

Another rabbit hole to fall in... (not mine - just an example - some even do it without the fish!)

Nice find, velodromed! I continue to be amazed by the rocks you just come across down there. Pretty cool.

Nice find, velodromed ! I continue to be amazed by the rocks you just come across down there. Pretty cool. Thank you! Honestly, the kids sharp eyes find most of the petrified wood. She is really good with spotting it as well as fossils. I tend to find the agates, chalcedonys and Jaspers. We look constantly also. Everywhere we drive, both of us are always on the lookout for piles of rocks, construction digs, roadside finds and so forth. It makes the daily driving around routine so much more fun. I just finished sorting all of the rock that weve found this last couple years. Ended up being a little bit more than I expected. The colored tubs contain the store bought and traded rocks we’ve acquired. We have at least another hundred pounds of rock scattered around the yard I need to collect still. Ugh.

Only 100 pounds in yard? My wife would wish I only had that much in the yard.

Boy, I don’t envy you the job of moving all of it. Lol It’s always darkest before the dawn. Hang in there!

velodromedYour pictures reminded me of the 4 bookcases of books I had to transport everytime I moved. Except books are less dense than rocks! I don't envy the work lying ahead for you.
