....trim saw had other ideas. Super fun piece of pet wood that has an eye shape - thought how cool this would have been to create an eye cabochon (assuming the pattern didn't disappear)....Oh well...I do have my entry completed, but will wait to add to the competition site until closer to the date.

Hard to like your post. Unfortunately, that happens. Sorry. Thanks - it's all good. Was disappointing, but just got me moving in a different direction. I think I'll try to tumble it still to see if it keeps the pattern...

Can you do a smaller and fatter oval and still save the piece for a cab?

Can you do a smaller and fatter oval and still save the piece for a cab? Oh, perhaps!! Theres a bit of room on the top that I could try to even it out a bit. Yes - maybe I will try that! It may not be a perfect oval, but as long as you can see the eye part...Thanks, Jason!

After I wrote that, I thought maybe it isn't that easy for you to do that...due to not having the right sized stencil. Long time ago, I found an eBay auction for the whole line of ovals. They come in 5 degree increments and are called ellipses. I think I have everything from 15-60. That way I can choose between some which are thinner or fatter depending on what I need to capture in the cab. *See...there's ways to spend money on this hobby you never even dreamed of! LOL

LOL I think I might have other oval sizes on my template sheet. Either way, even if the oval is a bit wonky, if it does what I hope it does I think it'll still look cool!

Brutal. That was the perfect piece! I was so sad when it happened! As soon as I cut that slab I knew that was what I wanted to do...but alas...I'll try to make it right, but won't be in time for the competition.
