So a few days ago I was browsing through the depths of Marketplace and came across this "tile saw". I have no clue why I originally clicked on it, but after looking closely at the pictures I could see what appeared to be a HP trim saw base that someone converted to a tile saw. I know it's very common to use a tile saw for lapidary work but I've never seen a lapidary saw converted for tile work. It was located about an hour and a half away and was listed for $75, so I honestly wasn't very interested but for some reason I sent a message asking what size blade was on it. The seller responded that they thought it was an 8" blade and if I wanted the saw I could have it for free. I think they were getting ready to just take it to the dump. How could I refuse? The listing looked something like this: someone put a lot of effort into making this heavy duty top, I think its 2 layers of 1" thick DHPE plastic But I could see the trim saw base poking out in a different picture: I was really hoping the original trim saw deck/top was underneath, but its missing: The old tag is pretty cool, I think that place went out of business decades ago lol. When I picked it up, the sellers said they would hook a garden hose up to the drain to supply water to it. Basically completely filling the saw with water and letting it overflow like a fountain lol. I worried the bearings would be shot after hearing that but surprisingly they feel great and far less rust than expected on the arbor. I know it's an extreme long shot... but does anyone have a original deck for an old HP 8TS?? I'm planning on just crudely fabricating one but I'd love to restore this old USA made HP saw back to it's former glory. Looks like the new Highland park only makes parts for the 6 and 10 inch trim saws. Another vintage saw saved from the dump...

Congratulations! Two hobbies served in one item : restoration and lapidary. Thanks Pat! Yes I definitely enjoy bringing back to life old lapidary equipment. They sure don't build them how they used to! Thanks Tela! When I heard my favorite four letter word "free" I knew there was no way I could pass it up. Except for the look my wife gave me when I told her I was picking up another saw lol.

The only acceptable "return look" for that look from her is the "deer in the headlights" look...trust me...I've relied on that a LOT of times! LOL Super nice score!!!

When I tell Elizabeth I'm off to get a saw her answer, if she says anything, is "just one this time?"

Let me know the spacing between the bolt holes on top. I have a HP table, but thinking it might have been from a 10" saw? not sure.

Or better, if you know someone with a tig welder...

I just measured it and looks like the four bolt holes are about 6 1/4" width and 8" length apart. But as Rockoonz mentioned, even if it's close, I could probably make it work. Thanks!

Another consideration is the position of the blade slot relative to the holes. That too could be moved if needed.

how far from the 8" line to the blade?

Looks like you may be able to use shim washers to fine tune the blade from side to side if needed, but I would avoid it if at all possible. I also like to cut off all the extra threaded shaft on those, way too much to get gummed up and have to clean when removing the nut.

From the leftward 8" line, the blade sits about 2.5" to the right. I hope that makes sense.
