Below is my initial attempt at stamp making. I made it from a re-purposed file. The results were far from perfected, but I believe I should be able to improve with a little effort. Thanks for looking.

I agree! I think it looks really good Bill! If it "only gets better from here", than you're going to have some amazing stamps!!

Could you do a similar design with a rolling mill?

Could you do a similar design with a rolling mill? The cuff wires are triangular shaped so I think it would be very difficult to do with a rolling mill.

Zonks I think you knocked that one out of the park and I think it is still going. If you really think that stamp needs tweaking ok but I think you should move on to the next design that one seems done to me. 2nd that silver work is fantastic and the triangle wire used what a excellent way to get those settings placed and soldered. You should be proud of that creation. Thx for sharing and I sure hope it was made for someone you know so enjoy seeing it from time to time. Can’t wait to see your next stamp.

Cool stamp - beautiful bracelet. I like the triangular sheet - very good idea. It added a whole other dimension to the cuff.
Thanks for sharing. Patty

johnthor1963 Thanks for the comments and I will definitely be moving on from this piece. I have really been bitten by the stamp making bug. I was a toolmaker/ blacksmith long before I started working with silver and I can feel myself being drawn back to it.

That’s cool. Whole new aspect to the hobby, and good skill to have. What tool(s) did you use to cut the notches in the file?

One problem with using a file - Pounding on hardened steel can send shrapnel flying through the air, even put out an eye.

One problem with using a file - Pounding on hardened steel can send shrapnel flying through the air, even put out an eye. No problem with that...the file was annealed in order to shape it, then re-hardened and then tempered. It is roughly the hardness and brittleness of a drift punch.

kharaThe pattern on the punch face was made after the file was annealed. It was made by placing the softened punch face on anther file and giving it a blow with the hammer.

1daveAnother interesting thing I discovered about file hardness is that the tang end of the file is not hardened. I don't know how they accomplish this but it is quite useful as you don't have to anneal it before shaping. You just harden and temper afterwards.
