It's a large enough chunk without much apparent weathering...so I would think that dang deposit must be somewhere pretty close to where you found it. Might need to label this "Illusive Serpentine"!

What I really like is you can see the shimmer from the asbestos fibers in parts of it. Thought the stone was actinolite asbestos at first, which I do find nice specimens of that right outside of Las Vegas.
Jax and I walked up the canyon a ways where I found this because I was following the water from a spring that surfaces for a little distance then goes back underground. Finally got to a waterfall before turning around. If I recall right, I found this piece about 100 yards below the waterfall, so the deposit could very likely be above the waterfall. I will have to search Google Earth and see if I can find any green deposits in the area.

I'd be pretty enthusiastic about looking uphill for a source of that beautiful material.

Serpentine is a favorite rock. Interesting history. Interesting forms. With more heat and pressure, you get jade.
I have a chunk of something that looks like serpentine, but is heavy for its size (like jade). However, it has radiating dark green crystals on top. Thanks for posting.
I’ve learned that my rock is actinolite.

I'd be pretty enthusiastic about looking uphill for a source of that beautiful material. Jax and I hiked up the canyon a ways. It was below the spring, so we followed the water up until we reached a waterfall. Did not feel like trying to climb up and around it, especially since I still had a drove ahead of me to get to a few places and nobody knew where I was in the first place.
Probably be going back up that way in the spring when it warms back up and camp again, which will give me more time to look around. There were some large boulders of the purple cataclasite I would not mind going back and getting anyway.

Have you checked hardness since jade is much harder than serpentine?

I’ll get photos soon. And check hardness.
