So I finally worked on some cabs AND remembered to take A photo. Good job, Me! Still need more fine tuning (particularly the amethyst, the camera never lies!) before polishing (tomorrow, hopefully!!) but I'm OK with the progress. This one I'm not sure what to polish it with; it's really soft. Not much of a dome to it either since originally I was going to try embedding it into resin (idea since scrapped). I'm leaning towards Zam since I've had good luck with that on some other soft stones but I'd love some other suggestions. Anyone want to weigh in on identities?

I think 2 might be a green moss agate and 4 a fancy India agate. The soft one maybe a rhyolite, or if super soft like aluminum or copper will scratch it a picture sandstone. You could try zam on the back first just to see what it does.

nice cabs. The one yet to be polished looks great. I think it is a rhyolite, probably sandstone though. It'll turn out neat.

I agree with Rockoonz that the last one is most likely picture sandstone. It won't take a polish at all. It's beautiful as it is, but if you want it to shine, you'll have to use some type of coating on it.

Need to get over that. I can say with almost 100% certainty that #4 is not an agate, I wish it was! Without the wetness, it looks like a green/purple/white jasper of some kind. I believe it came from somewhere in BC, whatever it is. re: Sandstone - I suspected that but wasn't sure the particulars. Kind of debating roughing out another one and coating one in ZAM and one in resin...because that's exactly the kind of scheme you should come up with when you're home sick with a bad chest cold & an ear infection right?

You are among friends...who, like you, are our own worst critics..so don't be apprehensive about showing your stuff*! (*by that I mean your cabs! ) I know people think ovals are easy...but any symmetrical shape isn't always all that easy. I think your cabs look great!

I think your cabs look great too! The first four look like they all have a good polish. I usually have my Harbor Freight Foredom copy set up with a muslin buffing wheel and Zam and routinely use it. It often times helps my cabs take on a bit more shine.
