How did you find this one, Dave? I note that it's not far from where you live. It is just north of Holt Canyon. Perhaps it caused the rock slide there. Geologists wrote it off as a volcano. No basalt.

The president of our local rock club, SURC. Mitch Elwood, took me back to the area several months ago, the green layer has all been dug away for road fill, and it became apparent to me my original thoughts were wrong. Cove Mountain is indeed an ancient volcano! The material in the Eruptions layers changed drastically over time. There was a brown layer, then the Green layer, and a purple layer on top. Quartz Crystal layers throughout. Sorry, my hands are too shaky to take any photos, but I did take some images from Google Earth: Green in the Roadway: Purple layer on the mountain side: The pit where they dug out the road fill:
