here are some pics of some various stuff i've been working on. first is a batch i took out of polish today, mainly a mixed batch as a vehicle for more fish: here are some fish from previous batched, these are notched and ready for line to be epoxied in to the notch: last summer i made an angel Christmas ornament, well, i made another just recently as a present, this is Brazilian Agate with seed beads sewn in at the perimeter. the backing is "Lacy's Stiff Stuff" and then soft leather as the finished back: and finally a Mex Lace cab pendant on a beaded necklace for another friends birthday coming up... close up of the cab: so, i haven't been eating cookies continuously, guys!!! (really!) thanks for looking, KD

Ooooooo that necklace is stunning! And your fish are adoreable. Do you do all the cutting on the saw or are you shaping on the grinder too? I'd really like to try one or two of those. Got some pretty awesome looking colors in the rest of that batch too.

Those are wonderful projects! I love the angel ornament and the necklace, but what do you do with the fish once they have line glued in the notch?

Stoner came up with the original idea, but he said i could copy it for my dad's birthday present, so i did: but everyone that saw it, wanted one, so i've been making more fish....i trim them to shape on the saw, the first ones i was grinding, now i just toss a few into each tumbler load. thanks again ED!!!!! Love that necklace, and the angel fish you have up in the first picture (the one in the middle). Quite of those "fillers" really caught my eye too! You sure you live in NY KD? I could swear I can see palm trees in the reflections

Nice batch KD. Your fish are really looking sweet! Got a question for you. Has the one you made for your Dad developed any algea? I was at my daughter's this past weekend and was suprised at the lack of any algea build up. When I made mine, I was in a hurry so I just went out front and cut a couple of stems off an asparagus fern and stuck them in the bowl. They are looking a little pale but the water is just as clear as when I filled it-with tap water. Maybe cuz it's air tight?
Glad you're getting some mileage out of the idea. So when is the next fish bowl gonna be finished?

Hey! That looks like stoner's avatar photo! Is that what it is? I wondered what that was. Very cool. Those fish are amazing. My response when I read the post : "Fish! check it out" Ooh, now I am getting curious. I think someone should make a mex crazy lace snail to go with it.

Man, I really love those fishies! You've got some great looking desgins there...really like those angel fish! I was wondering about algae build-up myself. Could you add some bleach to the water or use distilled water?? I really want to do one of these myself...Thanks Ed and KD Steve

i used distilled water and a few drops of bleach. no algae build up on the first one (or subsequent ones) i made (last July) though my mother said she had to add a little more water to it just recently, so mine are obviously not air tight.
i get the cheap plastic DIY kits at Petsmart for about $10 bucks and get another extra plant for another buck and a half. the bottom rocks are an obvious tumbled by ME trick. my husband DOES help me make the tops and the under hangers. i have a friend that runs a business in VA that wants a BIG one for his lobby....lol. he says he wants to add lights and a bubbler...so they move. well, a little. more like spin.
i am ready to ship my 5th kit so far. (don't be thinking Royalties, yet, Ed, i'm not making a dime). but then, who can have too many friends, right?
thanks everyone for such positive comments!
KD
oh, and PS to Alice, those are my indoor Dracana plants...

You can also add hydrogen peroxide to the water to prevent algae and keeping them out of direct sunlight will help too.

What do you use for the eyes?

The eyes are black permanent marker(Sharpie).
I'm sorry KD, I forgot to mention how much I liked the other two items you posted. The angel is really cool, but I think the mex lace necklace is awesome. Is the cab a complete dome or is it flat? Nice choice of beads too.

Ed, that is a very shallow dome almost flat, the original slab was very thin. i should have tried to make smaller cabs, buy you KNOW how i am with Mex Lace......
thanks again everyone, KD
