I bought a chunk of sodalite and finally got around to cutting some of it. This slab is right at 1/4 inch thick. The picture was taken with a bright light behind it. The color is really great when you see it with the light behind it. I am thinking of cutting some very thin to see how it will catch the light. Not sure how well that will work as the material seems easy to break even though I stabilized it with catus juice resin priro to cutting. Chris

Chris, that looks like a great example of that "deep blue" Sodalite...the kind that doesn't seem to have any of that gray "matrix" running through it. It's definitely a "soft" material...and I'm not too sure on how I'd classify is with regards to it's rigidity. I know it gets "chippy" on any wheel more coarse than the 220.

Beautiful stuff- I didn't know Sodalite could be so intense. Maybe destined for a doublet ?

I did notice a lot of little chips when I did the end cut on the saw.

Do you know the location? I had some from Bolivia that was very nice. I think African is nice, too. I just finished some earrings- not even a fraction as nice.

I should have asked. Got it at a rock shop in southern Michigan. Geoscape Rock Shop in Paw Paw. They had a lot of it. Wouldn't you love to say you live in Paw Paw. Always liked that name.

Originally, I was going to make a Tangram puzzel with it. But not sure if it will hold up or not even though I stabilized it. Probably try it anyway. Haven't done a doublet but now might be as good a time as any.

Sometimes they have some nice material but it looked like prices pretty much doubled last time I was there.
Cool find

I should have mentioned when I talked about the Tangram puzzle that the idea for that came from Rob Jugglerguy at Michigan Rocks. First try came out ok but have to get a little more exact on my cuts.

I had never heard of your Tangram puzzle & looked & briefly thought it could be an interesting project for Christmas presents. I thought you could call them puzzle coasters.
I think the only SANE way to do it would be to start with tile. Even thickness becomes easy then.
