These chunks I am sending off in a trade to have one made in to a sphere for myself.

James, do you think this is going to undercut due to the varying materials in there? Great looking material!!

James, do you think this is going to undercut due to the varying materials in there? Great looking material!! I doubt it. All the inclusions should be different colored pieces of quartz, and the matrix is quartz.
I have slabbed some in the past, but have nor worked with it yet. Will mainly use it for knife scales, but I did cut a couple smaller pieces to see what it would look like cabbed.

Vegasjames, do you search in fault zones shear spots where this material might be found? If you do find material do you then match it with known samples of cataclastic rock from fault zones?

Vegasjames, do you search in fault zones shear spots where this material might be found? If you do find material do you then match it with known samples of cataclastic rock from fault zones? I actually found this b accident. I was trying to find a mine where I dig out turquoise. There are two towns about the same size, look alike and both by dry lakes. I ended up turning at the wrong town. I was trying to find the mine road and could not figure out why I could not find it at first. I headed out to another mine and found the purple first along the side of the road. Then I found some of the green.
I really like this stuff, so on my last trip up North I made a point of making sure I went to this spot to look for more, and I wanted to see if I could locate the original source as it appears to be washing down from somewhere. Did not find the source yet, but did find some big boulders of it. Think the source is way up in the mountain beyond the end of the road.
Also found some red for the first time on this last trip.
After finding the first pieces, I posted the pics on a geology board, so they identified it for me. I had not heard the name before.
One thing I find rather surprising is how dense the material is. Even those chunks I cut off for the spheres are quite heavy.

Very cool looking rock. Great find, especially if it polishes.

Very cool looking rock. Great find, especially if it polishes. It is all quartz, so it should polish great. I will try to get some cabbed soon.

Really nice looking material. I love the way it looks like an abstract painting.
