A real beauty pageant. You made these in the 60's and 70's? I didn't know the meaning of the word cabochon until around 2000.
A lot of the patterns of those are familiar. I've made cabs with the same. Rocks are really old and there are terms like old stock, original and new dig. Dug rocks and slabs float through the lapidary universe for many years.

Stardiamond, I bought the rough when I lived in Texas and went to Texas A & M for graduate school and traveled some during the summer. I initially was introduced to plume from Marfa and Alpine when at A & M by a small local rock shop and discovered lace when going to border rock shops. My wife's family lived in Dimmitt, Tx. and was very accommodating in providing time for visiting the border when visiting . No cabs were made until we moved to Austin 20 years ago. I slabbed and cut rough shapes until then. When I lived in Fort Myers, Fl. in the 70's I became good friends with a small rock shop owner who had a small machine that used templates to make cabs so I knew the process and the use of a vibe.

I picked up this piece of rough from the HP lapidary auctions. It must have been from someone's collection. I ordered a 14 inch drop saw and need to fix my 10 inch slab saw before trying to cut this. The circled area is botryoidal and cutting it will be like diffusing a bomb.

Stardiamond, when I cut pieces like that I tried to cut parallel with the bubbles and get the bullseyes. Pictures around 22/23 show what I was trying to achieve. Robert Miller, the man that owned the rock and cab jewelry shop in Fort Myers, showed me what the different cuts would produce on good material so I know you have a beauty and should get some good orbs and sagenite sprays.

They are all beautiful and there are some amazing colors in there, some really intense red! Love the sagenite sprays in the 4th one.

Wow, Victor. Both of these lace sets are gorgeous. Many of them the typical lace that I'd expect but some of them really very unique. My very first favorite when I got into this hobby was Mexican Crazy Lace, so I'm definitely a sucker for this thread!

All are amazing but the 12th one down is on another level! It straight up looks like a stoned monkey to me!

That's quite a collection you have Victor. I hope you have a way to display them & not just hide them away. Patty
