Many years ago, I enjoyed collecting rocks with my dad and tumbling the stones we found. Then came college, a career and military service…and I let my hobby interests take a backseat for a time. Now that I’ve retired, I want to resume some of the hobbies I enjoyed long ago. So, I’m starting over again and am looking forward to new rock tumbling adventures!

you've come to the right place to ask questions and get answers that can be trusted while enjoying a laugh or two (or three!)

Welcome! If you're in eastern Tennessee you are in one of the few areas of the eastern U.S. that has a variety of lapidary materials that can be self collected; Tennessee Paint Rock (Agate), Tennessee Pudding Stone, Unakite, Epidote, Dolomite, Onyx, Jasper, etc.. Plus within reasonable driving distances of two of the better Gem Shows in the Southeast; Franklin, NC and Spruce Pine, NC held each summer.

I’m from central Tennessee so it’s just a little bit of a drive to the mountains in the eastern part of TN and western NC. And yes…I have two big chunks of Unakite that weigh about 4 lbs each…that I found with my dad many years ago over on the NC side of the mountains. I have been saving them for when I got going in the hobby again. I may use one for slabs and one for tumbling rough.

Yes, my rocks have been waiting on me for a long time! In fact, they’ve been around for many years before I was on this planet! ;-)

Michael Thanks Michael… I’ll keep this in mind. I see there’s a gem and mineral show coming up in Franklin in early December. I may go to that and see if anyone there has some good tumbling rough.
