Hello everyone!
I'm gonna tread carefully until I get to know the unwritten laws of the forum but I'll tell you guys I have been rock hounding since about March this year (2023). It all started when I was a kid, my dad gave me a rock collection with a variety of lots of nice samples, many that he found personally. Fast forward 25 years or so now I got my own kid, he's 7, and i got to thinkin, i really loved my rock collection... I should get him one! So I began purchasing samples and somewhere along the line, i thought about how much time ive spent prospecting for gold without finding a single flake and thought to myself, man... its GOT to be easier to find beautiful gems and minerals than it is to find gold because they certainly sell for much cheaper than gold does. A few weeks later I found myself at Diamond Hill Mine with my son, wife and dad and we all had an absolute blast and carried home buckets full of crystals and that was it for me yall I now had caught the rockhounding bug. So from there I started testing spots from Rockhound Resource here in GA, many with no luck at all, but some places didnt leave me empty handed. Finally I did a little research on finding agatized coral in the Withlacoochee River down near Clyattville and Valdosta GA. Watched some videos on Youtube and started getting really excited about what i was seeing. My first few trips weren't a complete bust but i kept trying, and took a day to scout something like a 3 hour radius of roads that led to the river on Google maps. Found a spot that produces all i could ever want and I've been killing it there ever since. The last couple months have been especially good since the water is the lowest ive seen it and i can actually walk across the river and get to spots where the stuff is literally just laying around all over the banks. all i can gather in a day. My work currently only pays enough to cover my monthly bills so saving up for equipment to work the coral into merch is out of the question. I was on my way to the river and almost there just this past weekend and was listening to someone telling a story about a lady that was blessed with $7,000 worth of the best photography equipment after she had been asking The Lord for it because she couldn't afford it and needed it for a missions trip she was going on. This inspired me to do the same. 3rd day after my prayer, my parents' neighbor brings me a 7" wet tile saw totally out of the blue. True story. That was just this past Monday (Saturday was day 1, Sunday 2, Monday 3). So now I have this used wet tile saw and gotta figure out how to use it, gotta figure out exactly what my aim is with much of the coral i have which is probably about a ton or so ranging from golf ball sized to one piece thats about twice as big as my big ol melon head lol. So that led me here to this wonderful forum where i can communicate with and learn from you pros out there that've been doing this a while. I've found a nice assortment of absolutely gorgeous specimens too. I intend to make a side hustle out of this but if it's lucrative enough, i honestly would love to be a full time rockhound... that would be a dream come true. I love every aspect of this hobby from digging and gathering to cleaning the rocks and im just having loads of fun with this for now. Thanks for reading my lengthy introduction, I genuinely look forward to talking with you and possibly even meet some of you in the future whether it be for rock swaps or field trips or whatever. I'm of Denmark viking descent, 25th great grandfather was actually knighted. I respect those who respect me. That simple. I give respect freely and feel others should do the same. If not, my blood line tends to reveal itself in epic fashion lol. Just sayin! But that said, I consider myself very very easy to get along with. I'm also a human lie detector lol. Im a big history buff. I love antiques. I love visiting new places and learning about them and the culture- to a degree. Not really sure what else to say about me, i guess if you have any questions just ask! sorry about any grammatical errors I'm typing from my phone lol. Looking forward to talking with yall.
