This wasnt my idea and ive only used it on motor oil so far. I thought it might be handy for those without a drain, arent able to pick up their saw, dont want to scoop it out etc.
At any rate its just the homemade version of a oil recovery system that I use on a couple high mileage vehicles that I dont care to get under or that I leave a teaspoon of old oil in the engine.
All you need is an old shop vac, I bought mine at a sale for $5. You cut the top off a 20oz bottle of soda or water, drill a small hole in the cap and stick it in the vac where the suction hose goes. You dont need to fasten it when you turn it on it pulls it in. Then you run some pvc tubing thru the bottle cap into the tank. Turn it on and instant suction hose.
Im going to try this on an ls12 I have vs dipping it out, trying to pick up a tray of oil etc.

Somewhere in the archives here is a creation called a rock snot sucker. They ran a hose from a shop vac to a 5 gallon pail lid, then a 2nd hose to vacuum with. Filled the remote pail, and pails could be changed, saved the vacuum motor too. As I recall there were quite a few made and happy people. Saw cleaning ain't fun, any helps are good.

Cool. Its a more advanced version than mine. I obviously dont filter motor oil lol. Although ive used it several times over the years and just suck it into the shop vac and its still running good. Also, after seeing the saw in that post I feel better about mine lol.

For about $25 walmart has vacuum lids that go on top of a 5 gallon bucket. I have one that is used to clean out the saws. Sucks most of the stuff out and the little bit that is left is no big deal.
