Christmas Plaid Jasper from Area 54. I've had this little piece of rough sitting in my backyard for a while. The slab started off with a perfect cross on the front (or as my grandson calls it a Jesus symbol) As I ground the dome it morphed into a Toyota symbol an then just a weird squiggle. Anyway this is all I got!   |

Happy New Year everyone and Wow! I am absolutely blown away at the gorgeous and creative set of entries that came in for what seemed like a challenging theme at first. I should have learned by now not to underestimate the talented cabochon artists of the forum.
I hate to have to post this because I always pride myself on a quick and clean voting period launch every contest but this time I'm away from my computer until Wednesday afternoon at the earliest. The Photoshop stuff is not something I can do from my phone.
I always hide the entries as soon as the contest closes and the voting begins, so the question is should I leave the entries in view while we wait or hide them early?
Contest participants get the most influence on the decision. My vote would be for hiding them for now.

Well since this isn’t locked yet I’ll go ahead and reply. Thanks MsAli ! Yes, it’s Calico Lace in the center, petrified palm wood, and then I think Script jasper on the entry piece. The other pieces used polka dot, petrified palm wood again, lemon chrysoprase, dendritic marble, and an unknown green. Maybe someone knows the unknown green and tan slab in the upper left corner? Thanks also opalpyrexia ! I went with Devcon 2 Ton epoxy on these. It is my first try at intarsia (except for a class over a decade ago) so these were kind of just test and learning pieces. I am pleased with how well it held. Zero issues working the cabs and there is no backing on them. I let it set up overnight only. I also got some 330 to try at some point. The shape was supposed to be reminiscent of vintage ornaments.🤓 |
