I run a couple lines at work and have 10 people who are under me. I wanted to do something a little different this year for gifts and everyone in my line has several of my tumbled stones on their desk. We have these metal frames that our monitor hang from and we are always looking for magnets to hang pictures and papers on the frame. I have a bunch of Brazilian slabs that I tumbled up and glued some rare earth magnets on them. Pretty pleased how they came out.

I like them. Rock refrigerator magnets are wonderful!

Those are some nice looking agates. But they look like dishwasher magnets, not refrigerator magnets. Sorry, I had to get that comment in before Jason jasoninsd did.

Super cool. Great work gift idea!👍 Even cabs could be made into fridge magnets. They’d likely be seen more often than if wire wrapped.

I took a bunch of cabs and put a magnet on them. They are on the fridge. I invite everyone who comes in to take what they want. I only have a few left.

It's fun to create ways to encourage (did I say make) people to look at and appreciate the beauty of stones. The line between frig magnets, windows Sun catchers or Xmas tree ornaments is diffuse. Did I say money clips, card holders or pocket rocks? Share the word. Stones rock!

Very nice agates and a great idea. I might try to your idea with a stack of 3 1/2" x 2" magnets but with thin slices of pet wood cut into perfect rectangles. I don't know how I'm going to cut them square, but if it works I'll post them here.

I recommend Earth magnets vs the thinner picture flexible versions. The latter are water and lose grip if no totally incontact. Broken stones are sadness.

Read weaker not water. Damned auto correct.

Yea each of these has 2 rare Earth magnets. The slabs are 1/4" thick as when I cut them I had no intention of using them as such. If I do this again I would cut them much thinner.

stefan Thanks to your post, and Amazon for the magnets and e6000, the kid and I will be making rock magnets in the morning for her to hand out at her 5th grade Christmas party Friday. Excellent idea here and I appreciate you posting it!

Here is my first petrified wood fridge magnet. I did it, it worked, but I will heed the advice on the earth magnets. I do fear them falling. The slab is 3/16" thick, kind of heavy for a fridge magnet. Getting everything square (corners) wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Nice selection of slabs for those magnets for sure. I also like the recipe holder idea. Good use for some troublesome rocks that might otherwise be tossed aside. On a side note, I planned to use mnt biking as a means to getting to locations to find rocks, but it never happened. If I move to NM I would have to buy a new bike and pursue that combination.

Well they were a huge hit. I ended up making 25 total and every single person came and thanked me personally and commented how much they loved the idea and the time I took to make a homemade gift. A definite hit for sure.

A definite hit for sure. That's great. I thank you also for the idea of fridge magnets. I have 23 more to make. Not sure what I'll do with them just yet, but the gift idea sounds good.
