I hope you get a chuckle out of this, even if it is at my expense.
Last week I slabbed one of Jason's jasoninsd Prairie Agates. Thanks again Jason, I have had more fun with those, at least until now. I cut the agate and showed it to my wife upstairs and then brought it back downstairs. After a couple days I took a look at the slabs to see what I might do with them. Then I noticed something bright and shiny and golden staring at me (see pic below). So I immediately got out the loupe to look at it closer. Man, that sure looks like gold and good size too. Wait, do agates every have gold in them? A quick look on the internet didn't reveal anything but how could it have gotten through the sawing if it wasn't something substantial. Maybe it is pyrite. Sure looks like gold. I was already thinking of messaging Jason to tell him that he should look through that pile in his yard to see if he could find any others when it dawned on me what time of year it is (I can be a little slow sometimes).
Yes, I thought, it is probably glitter. I grabbed a pin and picked the little flake up right away. I didn't like glitter before, and I like it even less now. Darn stuff gets stuck in everything each holiday season and I don't seem to get rid of it until October or November when the process starts all over again. I have even tried banning it from the house but it still creeps in on Christmas cards and presents from others. There is no getting rid of it. I think it got on the rock when I took it upstairs to show my wife. She likes glitter.
Well there may not have been gold but there was a silver or maybe red linning to the rock. Although there wasn't much large banding in this agate, there was a large patch of red material on the inside. It is much redder than shows in the photo below.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this and may all the glitter this holdiday season stay in your homes.
