Hello all, I'm working on a Hillquist 16 slab saw and I'm familiar with the oil pump system (not the way it was set up when I got it, there was no filtration). Reading Hillquist's old literature they mention a settling tank and pump that come with the saw but only show one photo of the saw itself. First does anyone have a photo of the original filtering system, and second a photo of a simple, cheap settling system that would work. I'm not looking for actual filtration (nothing that I have seen that might be cheap will actually work without greatly reducing the oil to the pump so it could never keep up), just settling out the worst of the sludge and rock chips.

Is this Tim? I have seen a few hilquist saws, never one with a dry sump. May have been an option but clearly not in common use. I think a chunk screen for it to run through before dropping into the settling tank, plus a baffle for oil to flow over to where the pump is would be enough. Also suspend the pump pickup above the bottom a bit for that little bit of sediment that will settle out when the saw is idle. I probably have pics of a tank setup from a magnum hydro saw somewhere, but not likely I would use it for design reference anyway. With a pumped oil system I would definitely have a starter relay and a pressure switch somewhere to shut the saw down if the pump fails to deliver oil for any reason.
