Thought I'd share one of the Christmas presents that Tom & I collaborated on this year.
I bought the components quite a while ago, thinking to make it for me.
But I needed a present for my little sister (she's actually 3 years older) so here it is.
I'm pretty happy with the way it came out, although I was wondering during the process if the wood was going to look OK.
The cabs are 1", the 18 gauge copper is 1/2", and the clock face is 8" diameter.
I believe the cabs are as follows :
12:00 = Chrysocolla 3:00 = Rhodonite 6:00 = Red Moss Agate ( Maury Mtn??)
9:00 = Petrified Wood.
If anyone knows different on the cabs - PLEASE speak up.
Thanks for looking,
Patty

OMG! It came out great!!!! I love the copper disks. You and Tom make a good team. I'm sure your sister will love it- I know I do. I like the little detail with the hands having the metallic center, too. Wonderful!

Thanks Tela, I was able to make the copper discs with a punch & my hydraulic press.
That's funny that you commented about the brass center, as we had a choice - Either a second hand, or the brass nut, & we went for the nut, as I don't think life should be counted in seconds !
Thanks for the nice comments - My sister better like it !

I really like it. Reminds me of my dop clock which I posted on here somewhere… I also really like the copper disks. Nice that you have the capability to make those. Could’ve been more stones, even all the same stone in lieu of copper to ensure it didn’t look too busy but I really like the metal and stone combo. The clock hands are nice too. It is actually really hard to find nice plain hands. Usually they are the fleur de flea type which I’m not a huge fan of. And that you inlaid the stones and copper rather than face mounted I think is a nice upgrade. Very cool gift!

I apologize, as I should have said, it was YOUR dop clock that inspired me to do this.
Right after I saw your picture, I HAD to buy everything, I wanted one- maybe some point we'll make another one for me !
I had initially thought about using all stones- but 1/2" round cabs sounded like insanity . So copper punch outs sounded better .
I agree with you insetting them worked out nicely.
Fortunately that was Tom's job - that and finishing the wood, inletting the clock mechanism on the back, etc.
He was a bit nervous about it, as we only had the ONE clock face - no screw ups allowed Fortunately it worked out.
Thank you for the inspiration

liveoak Oh funny! Well I’m glad it inspired you. Ya, we really like to do fun little projects like that. Kind of nerdy (in a good way of course🤓) and unconventional projects just seem to inspire us. We used to do more. Hopefully we’ll be able to find time for more soon.🤞

That turned out fantastic! She'll love it. I'd hang it on my wall.

Thanks Robin hummingbirdstones, and Pat Pat, Well it's all carefully wrapped & packed & shipping today ! My only problem is, I REALLY like it - and want one as as well. But then I guess that makes the best present. Thanks for looking, Patty

I think I got the better end of the stick, on the clock project.
Tom had the hard part in my opinion.
