I got some beautiful green quartz, agate and pretty rust and red jasper from Banjo via UPS today. Now that wasn't the funny part....
You should have seen the UPS driver...when I got to the door...he was just staring at me watching me pick up the package. (Guess he was ready to write a claim ticket on the spot)
He just sat there and watched me shake the box. I was so excited when the stone arrived...I'm sure I had a big grin on my face when I picked up the 12lb box!
I'm also sure he thought whatever was in that package was broken into a jillion pieces. (It did tinkle quite a bit when you shook it) Instead, I just waved to him, smiled and hollered thanks. He gave me this puzzled look, actually shrugged, waved back and left. Betcha he thought I was nuts!
The stone Banjo sent is really lovely! He was also kind enough to send some finished samples of the stone. This is really going to help! I realize now I need to keep ALL of my stone in 60/90 till I really get the shape I want.
I'm discovering, for the best results, I must have a tumbling Mantra....
*patience grasshopper.....you must stay in 60/90 a few more weeks*
I think I'll put up a sign that says this over my tumbling work area! ;D

Hehehehehe as I sit here thinking the same thing. Do you realize how silly it sounds to have a converstation like this .... "What'cha doin?" Nothing "Want to go to the casino" Nope, I'm waiting for a delivery "What'cha gettin? Just some stuff "What do you mean STUFF? What'cha gettin" A box of rocks OK! You happy now? I'm getting a box of rocks!!! And I walk away in a huff as my neighbor almost falls off her chair laughing. Dang people just don't get it!!! She was still laughing as she drove off to donate at the casino.
Funny, I got that same kind of reaction when I went to the post office to mail a couple boxes out. "What's inside? Do you need to insure it?" Nope, it's just a box of rocks .............

Rosebud, Funny you should mention a casino. When we go to Minneapolis, Rob (hubby) wants to go to one of their casino's since Georgia is a "casino-free" zone. He too about fell outta the chair when I said if we could go look for agates BEFORE we go gambling. *chuckles* Krazy, I think I WILL put up those signs. Everything I'm reading says we just need patience and we'll get good results! Instead of rushing it. I've been improving/organizing my work area, setting up my next stone batches etc. Now, I'm about to start practicing wire-wrap. That should keep me busy at least for a few weeks. I think I'm going to make a wooden sitting bench to go in front of my table. Kinda like the old picnic bench type.... I have some old pressure-treated stair treds that should make a nice....though tacky looking....bench. :-)

Emerald, that IS funny!!! I have been on the phone for the past two days wanting to find out where my Fed Ex package is. I kept telling the people on the phone that it was irreplacable and I would be so upset if it was lost. They asked what was in it, and I said "ROCKS" I am sure they thought I had lost my mind ;D But they ARE irreplacable.....nature can't produce these just because we ask Her to Bren

LOL Emerald, if that's the case, he'll never get to the casino. I emailed that gal who signed the Minnesota post in the Location forum but haven't heard back from her. I haven't been able to find any places to go rock picking down there at all. My son's boss has declared rock picking on the roof off limits to all but employees. (Yes, that was where I went to pick all those great stones I got last time I went down there.) The only casino I know of down there is Mystic Lake. At east I believe that will be closest for you if you're staying anywhere near the airport. [glow=red,2,300] ~ Cher ~[/glow]

Hello Emerald,
I know exactly what you mean ...
I am known to our local Ace Hardware Store (UPS Shipping Center) as the rock guy. One individual in particular "Frank" just hates it that I am always shipping rocks out ... he just does not understand! He is always saying "Who in their right mind would be buying rocks ... I just don't get it". I generally tell him "with an attitude like that ... you wont either" ;D.
I one told him that I am left handed ... and that held him for a minute or two ... then it came ... What does that mean?
My answer: Well if the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body ... and the right side of your brain controls the left side of you body ... then it is a proven fact that left handed people are the only ones in their right minds.
That left him scratching his head ... I just smiled and walked away ;D
Have a great evening,
John

Yesterday the homeowner of the new house that I am painting stopped by with her 8 yr old son. He was outside when I had coffee so I pulled out my sack of rocks and asked if he would like a rock, you should have seen his face lite up. about this time a neighbor lady and her daughter was walking by and I asked if she would like a rock "WOW" really so she chose 1 and off I went back to work, about 20 minutes later the boy comes in the house and says there are some more kids outside could they have a rock too? so I go outside and there are 6 kids looking for a rock. so they all chose one and off they go it was the most fun I have had in ages

as i was shipping out a fairly large rock the other day at our local post office, even tho it is a little sleepy town place with a few women running it, they have to (by law) ask the obligatory question "is it fragile, liquid or potentially hazardous..?" and they are SO used to the standard reply "no, no, no" that when i answered YES to the lady running the counter, the postmistress looked up immediately!!!! well, i had to tell the truth, that rock could BE potentially dangerous in the wrong hands (stand back, i am armed with a rock and i'm not afraid to use it) or if you accidentally dropped it on your toe or loving pet!
they were NOT amused......

That was funny Emerald ;D! I'm sure that the UPS guy will soon get used to the unusual noise of your packages! I have yet to receive one of those rock packages, but will certainly like to experience the look on my UPS driver! ;D
