I've seen some nice rough epidote chunks available at local rock shows, but I'm not sure if it's suitable for tumbling or rotary carving. From what I read, it tends to appear as tiny and fragmentary crystals, often in a softer matrix that would fall apart under any sort of working pressure. Any thoughts or experience with this mineral?

I think it would depend on the epidote. I have a lot of epidote druzy, which is somewhat fragile. But I also have more solid epidote like you find in unakite, that is much more solid and stable stable. Epidote druzy And the more solid epidote.

Ahh, okay. The rough chunks I saw are definitely more like the "druzy" picture you posted--pitted and fragmentary. I'll keep it as-is instead of trying to polish or tumble. Thanks.
