No, not real bookends: metaphorically speaking! It's a cabbing board.
1. Belvadee Jasper #1 — 41 x 31 mm A rare jasper that was "mined out" years ago...
2. Rhodonite — 38 x 30 mm This patterns on this Washington State cab begged to be cut this way: Modified Shield Shape.
3. Mookaite — 36 x21 mm From a boring slab with patterns that tightly converged in just one small, sweet spot.
4. Blue Quartz with Dumortierite — 28 mm The slab is about the color of slightly faded blue jeans, so I was happy to see the cab brighten up a bit with polishing.
5. Belvadee Jasper #2 — 50 x 27 mm Cut from the best part of the best slab that I have. But I have so very little left of this jasper.

What a good looking group —- shape, shine, color, pattern capture.
What is Belvadee? Thanks.

What a nice group!!! If I were forced to pick a fav- I can narrow it down to 2. I LOVE Dumortierite and yours has such a good polish on a difficult material to polish (at least, it has been for me). But, that mooka! Wow!

I think the mookaite is indeed special with such a play of colors.

That belvadee is beautiful. I've only seen 1 other person with some really nice slabs of it. It's not one ya come across very often if ever.

Great set of cabs, Gary! They are all gorgeous. I have a couple of slabs of Belvadee around here somewhere. Finding them would be a treasure hunt. I don't think the ones I have are near as nice as yours, but it's been probably years since I've seen them.

Funny. Their description is wrong. It’s from eastern oregon, not sweet home.

Holy Crapola Gary!! They're all fantastic...but what you accomplished with that Dumortierite is stunning! Would you mind sharing if you did anything special with that one? I'm with Tela...I've never been able to accomplish a shine like that!!

I'm with Tela...I've never been able to accomplish a shine like that!! Thanks, Jason. I simply cut the Blue Quartz with Dumortierite as I would most materials — nothing different or special. The slab was a "thank you" gift that was incuded with a purchase. Here's a photo:

The Belvadee Jasper you cut and polished has a real deep beauty in it. Great work bringing that beauty out of the rough and into the light!

But, that mooka! Wow! I have corrected the Dumortierite cab. It's actually "Blue Quartz with Dumortierite", and that explains the higher polish. I searched Outlook and retrieved a sale record from several years ago. So I had purchased it rather than received it as a gift. I never expected it to look very good when polished, which is why I just tossed it in a box and forgot about how I acquired it.
A little research online suggests that blue quartz is rare. Hopefully that translates to a higher price for the cab.

All of them are superb. I like the rhodonite and Mookaite. The Belvadee is similar to purple cow from eastern Oregon. Thanks for sharing.

That would be SO awesome! I'm glad I asked the question now! LOL The quartz really does explain a lot. The Dumortierite I've worked had a higher than matte finish...but not super glossy. In fact, my wife...who doesn't seem to care for too many of my pendants, actually saw one of the Dumortierite cabs I made and asked me to make a pendant with it for her.

Excellent set Gary, they are all very nice! I might be the oddball but I'm really liking the mookaite!
