Thank you for the reminder! I thought about this last night and made a mental note to check the website this morning but of course forgot. Entry form going in the mail tomorrow AM!
Really excited about this China Hollow Jasper, tried finding a source of some rough after it was announced but couldn't find any. Hope that maybe after the contest is over additional rough will be made available?

Thanks for the info! Will be fun to watch. I do NOT need anymore projects right now!🤓 That China Hollow is pretty. Very Biggs/Deschutes-ey except looks like some even has some greens.👍

Isn't China Hollow a Biggs mine owned by Don ? I think I read somewhere a post by catmandewe about it

It's really not super close to Biggs/Deschutes, but anything brown from the general region seems to get the moniker. He has his shop in Wasco, did a field trip years ago with the club, I can still see the scar on my left thumb from the wascoite agate shard at the adjacent agate hillside. While I was getting bandaged up Elizabeth found the chunk (of agate) that made the nicest sphere I have. Last year someone at Desert garden had a bunch of the jasper. Most is pretty average stuff, not too exciting, but probably all batches will be as close as you can get to an equal challenge.

Deadline for application listed on the website is June 1, 2024. But you have to mail the rocks back by Aug 15 so if you wait you have less time to tumble. I think I started in March last year and still wish I had a few more weeks.

I sent my paperwork off yesterday. Can't wait to get started tumbling. Based on these photos and things I have seen online, it looks like great rock, and I would pay at least $10/lb for the rock to start with, $13 with shipping.... So the contest is just a bonus.

Anyone know how long the contest is open for? Does it sell out really fast?

I got my box earlier this week, but I’m in Montreal for business so I haven’t been able to look at them! I can’t wait to check them out!
