My first Rebel 17 barrel of 2024 is packed and running! I’ve got some beauties in there. First up are several chunks of Graveyard Point agate. Two are fresh, one I’ve been working on awhile… Next are several black skin agates I’ve been working on for months… A bunch of golf ball sized Botswana agates… A handful of Rainbow agates… A big chunk of Serepe Jasper… A couple of really unusual Prarie agates These three amazing fossil rocks… I finished filling the barrel with a bunch of misc rocks, including a pound of nice crazy lace, but I forgot to take pictures of those. I got everything rolling with 60 SiC. I hope everyone had a nice New Years Eve and here’s to a wonderful 2024!

Way to start the year. My new Rebel 17 started leaking after 4 days. I reached out to the company to see if they had any suggestions. I ended up putting 3/4 inch washers under the thumb screws and that seems to have stopped the leaking for now.

I’ve found that if I tighten it down well, let it sit for 20-30 minutes and then tighten it again, it stops the leak issue. Figured it all ‘relaxes’ after the initial tightening. I like the washer idea though and will try that next clean out. My issue was the plastic nuts started cracking after 6 months. Superglue helped for the next 6 months but now I picked up some m6, low profile thumb nuts off amazon for $6 and started trying those yesterday. The only other thing is my motor started humming louder after 5 months. It didn’t increase in heat or more noise, so haven’t stressed. I should check with the company though…how did you reach out to them? Did they respond?

Happy New Year! Looks like you're starting the year off right, and I look forward to seeing the progress you make on those rocks! I'm running my first batches in the QT 66 that I got for Christmas and am excited to figure it all out. I'll post photos of the first run (a bunch of beach rocks my daughter collected) in a couple of weeks!

The leak issue my high-speed Rebel 17 had in 2022 was due to the gas buildup that pushed the lid off eventually. What I did differently was to use the hot water and no longer add sugar to the batch, which seemed to solve the leak issue 100%.

I’ve never had that issue fortunately. I don’t use sugar etc as a thicker, I save slurry from both my vibe and rotary’s, dry it out then use chunks to thicken the slurry in my different tumblers. It works pretty well. I also run the slurry in each barrel consecutively for several runs once it’s at a good viscosity. I think my issues with getting the lid on tight enough are because of my beat up hands lol.

You know I'm a super fan of Prairie Agates...but that Turitella cousin steals the show!
