Just for kicks, I replaced my usual 500AO 2nd step in the Lot-O with 1000AO instead. I'm shocked at the results. This is some of the best shine I've had. They're like glass, especially the unakite and jaspilite. The hematite metallic just glimmers. I still had the minimal undercutting from suspect mixed-hardness beach rocks, but even that is minimal. I'm not really sure why it worked so well. I thought the rocks would need the larger 500 grit to grind a little longer before jumping to polish. - Rotary until smooth Lot-O (1/3 ceramics): - 1/2 tbsp 120/220 SiC for 2 days - 1/2 tsp 1000AO + 1/2 tbsp Borax for 3 days - 1/2 tsp AO Polish + 1/2 tbsp Borax for 2 days

Wow! Even the granite looks like it polished well. Great job!

I don't remember seeing granite being polished like these in your pictures...

I don't remember seeing granite being polished like these in your pictures... Most of those darker speckled ones are syenite (Yoopers without the lites, haha). They turned out amazing without undercutting. I'll have to try this a few more times to see if it was a fluke. Maybe the rocks were just really smooth after 120/200.
