Hi,
I have a Lortone 33B tumbler and recently just started having issues with it. When the 2 barrels are separated on the rollers, the motor easily has enough power/torque to turn them at a normal RPM. But when the barrel-bottoms come in contact with each other, the motor gets bogged down and doesn't have enough torque to turn them over. The motor is fairly new and works great, as long as the barrels are not touching. I've tried different belt tightnesses but nothing seems to help. Has anyone had this problem?

I have two 33Bs and never had that problem. First thing I would do is oil those silicon inserts at the ends of the shafts with some good ole 3 in 1 oil and see if that helps. It's odd that it stalls the motor when they're together.

Is it possible that when the barrels slow down or stop rolling the drive roller shaft is still turning at full speed? I have had to scuff the exterior of my 6 lb Lortone barrels and the drive roller shaft to create enough friction between the surfaces so that the barrels would roll.

Are they the original, matched barrels? I can maybe see if they are rotating at different speeds and they touch it would cause problems... I have a busted CE rotary tumbler that I would like to use the barrels for but they spin at a slightly different speed than the Lortone 33B barrels...

Slightly different barrel diameters?

These are great suggestions, thank you all. It's been frustrating because it doesn't seem like a common problem. The barrels I have came with the 33B and are both the same size. I will try scuffing the rollers to see if that helps.

One of those flexible tape measures, like a seamstress uses, should tell you quick enough if you have 2 different barrel diameters going. If I were you, I would take the barrels off, turn the base upright while it’s plugged in, and get a drop or 2 of oil on the drive shaft where it comes out of the motor base. I’ve found that both my 33b’s need this done every so often, more so than I initially thought, to keep them spinning at speed. And that it can sometimes be evident when both barrels are on the rollers but not 1 of them. I just saw this symptom a couple of weeks ago with one of my 33b’s, as soon as I oiled the shaft everything went back to normal again.
