New to this forum - Intro: I make mixed medium sculptures using lapidary stone and various other materials. These creations have with them an associated short story that the sculpture represents.
I logged on here today because I have a specific question. I saw in a video made by Highland Park that in the final polish on their reciprocating flat laps they polish dry.
I have always used a wet cerium oxide slurry as the final polish. This stuff is very messy, dry would be great ! Does anyone polish dry and what polishing compounds are used. Any tips

Welcome from Washington. Sorry, I can't help you with your flat lap slurry question.

I run a Vibe Lap, 20 inch Lortone. Polishing cycle is run using Tin Oxide on a dedicated pan with tight weave Berber type carpet attached to bottom of the pan. It's always been wet slurry polish for me with just enough water to barely reach the top surface of the carpet. If the slurry gets too much above the carpet it get's messy. As it is the polished rocks do end up with polish stain on the sides. A good soaking in water followed by a good stiff bristle brush usually gets the residue off.
It seems to me that a polish slurry in the carpet would work better than a dry polish.

Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! I don't use a flat lap...so can't give you an answer on that...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...so if you have any other questions, I should be able to answer them!
