I've been seeing lately that some folks rinse and change grit daily in vibratory tumbler. I've always just run the original grit for 1 to 3 days without freshening. I can see the possibility that in 120/220 you might want to do this to try and grind and shape further but I see no benefit in 500ao or 8000 ao polish as I want the polish to break down further and further to deepen the shine. Please share with me your thoughts on this process and what tge benefits would be of freshening grit or polish if you do this. Thanks

I personally found no benefit in refreshing the grit in a vibratory tumbler. I do the same as you do.

I recharge the 220 grit after two days, so 220 stage twice with a cleanout at two days. The rest of the stages 2 days each.

Thanks Lately, I’ve been starting with 2 tsp of 180-220 SiC and a tsp of dried vibe slurry in my raytech 5 and just let it run 4-5 days. Between day 2-3 I’ll add roughly 2/3rds teaspoon of 500 or 600 SiC. Once done I’ll switch to my polish barrel that still has the last runs micro-polish AO in it. I’ll add a tsp of 1200 AO and let it run 3 days. Half way through I’ll add a 1/4 tsp of 1500 AO. Once done I clean it out, run a quick rinse cycle then start the polish run with 1/3rd tsp of 2-3 micron AO. Typically I’ll run this 2-3 days, often adding 1/8th or so tsp more micro AO midway through, then clean the rocks in my sonic cleaner. I’ll leave the remnants of the micro AO run in the polish barrel for next time, as it saves time building slurry for the pre-polish run.
