My cab production has been zero for the past 3+ years for several reasons: trying to get settled in a new home, illness (there's been more of that than I'd Like), but mainly lack of water. My spacious and wonderful new workshop is ideal except there's no ready water source. My plans to have a plumber fix it have been put off for one good reason after another. But finally my urge to cut some stones caused me to jury-rig a temporary set-up yesterday and here's the result of a half-day of satisfying my lapidarist urge. Imperial Jasper Prudent Man Plume Idaho Seam Agate Laguna Agate Willows Creek Jasper Mtorolite aka Chrome Chalcedony rockshow.rocktumblinghobby.com/i.php?/upload/2024/02/10/20240210111742-68253664-me.jpg[/imgThanks to Robin hummingbirdstones for the gift of the Idaho Seam Agate rough, and to brotherbill for the Mgorolite rough.

Don't know what happened, but here's the Mtorolite (Chrome Chalcedony) image that didn't show up as it should have in my original post.'

About gosh darn time....
Nice set. I really like that last one. Maybe you're already aware, but if not, the idaho seam agate goes by the name idaho sunset.

Re: seam agate: I think only Casey Santee's claim has that name. Matt Elliot and others have coined their own trade names. I used the generic because I'm not absolutely certain which claim my stone came from.

Rick, I'm stoked for you that you got back on the wheels! That's a super sweet batch! I've been seeing some mention of Mtorolite for a while now, but that's the first cab I've seen made from it. Gorgeous!

Beautiful cabs, Rick! I'm happy to see you finally got some cabs cut. That seam agate is stunning! It's like flames in water. I'll have to see how you rigged the water when I come over for mushroom soup fest!

gemfeller Rick, It's nice to see that you have been able to cab again. We spoke about this a few years ago, and you had impediments then. Nice to see you were able to clear your plate and do cabs. Great work. Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous! Thanks! Mtorolite is the name given the material that was first discovered in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) years ago. I searched for rough but could never find any. Several years ago the same material, under the more scientific name Chrome Chalcedony, was unearthed in Western Australia. The few slabs I have were a gift from Brother Bill. I don't know whether the material is African or Australian but I like it a lot.

I'll have to see how you rigged the water when I come over for mushroom soup fest! Thanks Robin. Glad you like the Idaho rock, and thanks again for it! My water system is pretty primitive but it works for this "creative emergency." Water from the bathroom transported in an electric coffee pot which is heated and used to keep my hands warm. I use a cheap spitter pump for cutting. Spoils are drained into a big plastic bucket which is hauled upstairs and dumped outside to save the septic system from sediments. Not ideal but it'll do until I can find a copacetic plumber. Looking forward to Soup Day!

Beautiful cabs! You have way to much talent to put it on hold for that long.

++2 on the Chrome Chalcedony, beautiful !
Hope you're able to figure out plumbing to stay at it. How about a very long hose that you can buy fittings to attach to a sink. Nicer than hauling & you can turn on the hot tap ! Heck, if you put a pump in your bucket, maybe you could just pump it back or out the window.

Very nice cabs!
Congratulations on getting your water set up together. As long as it works, that's what matters 👍

Sweet set of cabs, Rick.
Just curious, are your other cabs about the same size as the Mtorolite? They look larger to me because they don't have indications of scale.

Yes, I should have included a size indicator. The Imperial is a bit larger than the Mtorolite. The others, except the small Willow Creek, are in the same size range.
