I lucked out and got a heart shaped botswana agate. I wanna polish it but Aldo keep its current shape. Would it be better to tumble with more round rocks or jasper with sharp edge square like cuts? I feel like I should choose rounder rocks to tumble with but I've been in this hobby for about 15 minutes.

bctrimble01Welcome to RTH. Botswana agates are pretty tough and will take weeks or months to shape. They’re great rocks for tumbling and have been one of my favorites for years. There are lots of recipes in the archives. In rotary tumblers, rocks grind pretty evenly on most surfaces. It shouldn’t matter too much whether you run angular or rounded rocks with it. Ideally, run it with other agates. Try to maintain a mix of sizes and keep the tumbler 2/3-3/4 full. Good luck. Looking forward to some photos.

The agate should keep most of its heart shape as long as the tumbler is pretty full, just like starguy explained above. Using smaller rocks as filler or media will help cushion it a bit from being aggressively ground down. I hope it keeps its shape.
