I've seen video of large truck tires placed on rollers that make good high volume tumblers. They bolt plywood lids on the sides with passthrough threaded rods and they seem to be quieter from tumbling inside the heavy rubber. One of these days I might try making one.

I think I have seen a video of this once. I just haven't seen a video of how they get all those rocks out of there! I was doing mosquito abatement work and there was water collected in rubber tires I need to dump out. Not so easy....

Maybe old truck tread cap where they have lost the cap along the freeway/highway, line the inside of the barrel as the cap is plyable with construction adhesive or drill and rivet in place should quiet it down and last along time. Just spit balling here.
