Hi I'm pretty new at tumbling and have been reading up on using corn cob for polishing stones that are 4 on mohs scale. When I was trying to locate corn cob for tumbling says grit is 20/40 grit. Thoughts on using corn cob for dry polishing or green epoxy media?

Welcome! I haven’t done much tumbling lately and never used the corn cob but someone here oughta chime in. rockjunquie Can you help put this in the tumbling thread so some more tumblers see this?

Welcome from Southern Nevada.
I have tried the corn cob method in a vibe tumbler. I got the crushed corn cob from a feed store and added some polish. Cannot tell you how it worked though as the cabachons I was polishing are still in the vibe covered with corn cob and polish dust. I did not take them out and clean them. The crushed corn cob was not very expensive though, but does come in 50 pound bags.

Welcome from Missouri. They might be a little harder than 4 but here is a link to a Michigan Rocks Jugglerguy video on using corncob media to polish Petoskey Stones. You might also do a search on the forum. I think there have been other threads about using corncob media. I haven't done it yet myself.

I'm tumbling purpurite with some florite. I decided after some research to start with medium grit. It been about 9 hrs and they are starting to round nicely. I haven’t decided yet of im going to use corn cobs or just regular polish at end. Any suggestions?

These videos might be helpful too. The fluorite undergoes a final polish in corn cob.

Thoughts on using corn cob for dry polishing or green epoxy media? And in this case, I think the reference to 20/40 grit corn cob media just means that's the size of the corn cob particles, not anything to do with the hardness of the corn cobb.
